Same here. While I wouldn't trade the experience that I have had with FFXI for anything I know for a fact that once I'm done with FFXI I am not interested in playing another MMORPG anytime soon, if ever again.

if SE had to end FFXI due to lack of funds (highly doubt) or something similar, u get what im on about...what would you do??

I'd celebrate the joyous occasion by doing something else with my Sunday Monday and Wednesday nights. Damn set PTs.

I'd probaly play all the games that i never had time for because of FFXI, and after that I might maybe give DDO a try. Otherwise life would carry on as normal just with a differant game.

I for one (at the moment) wouldn't really care. Having just got a gf in real life, i stopped playing FFXI. If/when she gets bored of me/finds someone better, i'll prob go back to FFXI full time. Just really can't be bothered with it at the moment.

Maybe they'll be kind enough to release their server-hosting software to the public.
If not, there is a website with dedicated team working on cracking FFXI (which they supposedly already have), and making their own private servers for it. Just give it time ; ;

Mmmmmmm now you got me thinking...... how many players does FFXI have over WoW I know for a fact that WoW has more users.... But as far as i know most of the japanese players use PS2 for FFXI. unless i am mistaken. So it is going to be interesting to see what happens once PS3 comes out.

I know for a fact that FFXI does not have very many subscribers outside of Japan, as hard as that may be for many of you to believe. In many of the articles I've read in business journals, gaming sites and MMORPG resource sites, FFXI hasn't ranked that popular in the EU or NA among all other MMORPG and Online games out there.

In Japan, there's many MMORPG games. Albeit, most of them are not even on caliber with the MMORPGs here in the west (WOW, EQ, Eve) there's still a healthy number of subscribers to those games, many of them for the PSX/PS2 and XBox. PC users are not very high, unlike in the U.S., so maybe that explains the "low budget" type of MMORPGs that get released in Japan.

MMO games are quite popular in Korea, Taiwan and Singapore, however. Like with FFXI, many of them import western MMOs and connect to our servers. I know there's a Singaporean in Valor LS on Middie and in my LS back on Middie, there were a couple of players who lived in Malaysia. There's quite a lot of Korean players too, although many of them play on the JP version (This explains why there's JP players that have the {I don't understand japanese} comments)

Anyway, as I was saying, it's not how many hard core players there are here in the US, but how many subscribers are left in Japan. If Namco puts out a Xenosaga MMORPG world, for example, or if Konami puts out a Solid Snake MMORPG, who knows ... if it pulls too many subscribers in Japan, SE will shut down the servers.
