  • Too much drama...

Alright. I'm not going to mention names here, but on the Hades server I just encountered the largest amount of personal drama I've ever experienced in an online game aside from a guild disolving over a bitter divorce.

In a party I was in, the two warriors who were obviously very young (they mentioned their ages when questioned by another party member), were emoting all sorts of kisses and gestures at a female red mage and it was obviously making her uncomfortable. I told them to stop, and so did the white mage, and eventually they did.

A few minutes later one of the warriors leveled, and was then a little too high for the party so he left. We started a discussion as to whether or not to invite a bard or a warrior, both were looking for a party. We had a whm, rdm, two mnks, a war and a high level rdm watching over us, and were levels 22-24, still low enough for mnk to take some hits. I suggested that we invite the bard. The whm, insisting that I was a noob and knew nothing about parties, wanted to invite the tank.

The whm seemed to associate me with other members of the party that she didn't like, because I showed no signs of being a noob. I was finishing skillchains and hadn't missed one. I was provoking when necessasry to save a war or mage, and was doing great damage, and had better equipment than the other monk.

The party disolved due to the leader, a warrior, kicking the whm out for calling us all noobs. After which, I sent her a tell asking why she was mad at me in particular, because I thought she did well as a whm and wanted to stay in contact with her. She just told me to stop bugging her, and to talk about party strategy after I had been playing for more than a month.

I commented that maybe she didn't have the type of personal character for being a white mage. - as white mages should be amiable, friendly people since they absolutely need to party.

She then put me on some sort of personal 'black list' and had a bunch of people from her LS send me insulting tells for the next half hour.

It made me feel as though half the server has it against me now, even though it was actually only 5 or 6 people who probably won't remember my name.

I hope this doesn't happen often. I like the social nature of FFXI, but if it turns sour very often like this I probably won't stick around.

I'm going to say it doesn't happen often, just because it has never happened to me or anyone I personally know. However, there have been a few threads with similar situations.

Go take a peek at the Alexander Forums in Killing Ifrit. You'll feel so much better about Hades after that.

*nods slowly* well, as long as people have it worse than I do, I'm fine

I'll keep at it. I can't imagine this happening TOO often in FFXI anyway. It's such a social environment that it can't possibly be a catalyst for that kind of behavior.

Yeah, the thing to keep in mind is it's real easy to lose yourself in a crowd of thousands. And honestly, haven't you recognized someone in-game from something but could never quite put the finger on where or why? There's been a few times I've done that, /wave'd @ the person, had them /wave back, then been informed afterwards from someone involved that my rememberance of that person wasn't a positive thing. lol Trust me, they'll forget it ever happened in a few months.

            Or they'll send you a tell every day about what ya did and how much they hate you... -.-; Two people so far, most forget about me, but the ones that remember, really annoying! >.< I don't like B-listin' people so I just live through it... -w-;

            The Mithra was slayed,

lmao! i'm sorry, but i found this part funny.

all the white mages i know are jerks (with the exception of two, plus one who has whm as a second job) people who play white mage tend to be stuckup jerks who just want a easy invite. i've met some people who don't fit what i just described, but i've met a lot who do >.>

let me teach you one thing about this game: the lower levels suck. for some reason, even the most experienced players can degrade into little children in dunes/quifim for some odd reason. you'll find tons of posts on these boards complaining about it. don't let one bad party ruin your experience. parties don't start to get good until the 30's-ish, and by the 40's everyone acts like a professional.

              don't let it bother you.

Black Mages, White Mages, Red Mages, and Bards are all jerks up until a certain level. Summoners are jerks once they hit 70. They all share in common a "my time is worth more than your time" attitude. There's nothing humble about this people, and there is no reason to. The game is set up so that we rely on all the mages while they don't neccessarily rely on all the melee.

                    Re: Too much drama...

Unfortunately this is a common problem in FFXI. But since there are so many people on each server, its rare that you'll be badmouthed to the majority of the server. The only time this really happens is when you've done something to deserve it or some snooty well known person that has a lot of ass kissers slanders your name. So usually its just a small group of people that end up forgetting about you in a week or so. Don't sweat it but you'll probably run into it again sometime down the road.

Nothing... They just said one warrior wasn't enough... One warrior and two monks I might add... They said monks can't tank... That's true, but mostly applies in the post 30 game. Ironically right after that party disolved I ended up in a new party. We couldn't find a tank so I tanked as a monk from level 22 to 24 with fairly respectable experience per hour against IT enemies. Of course, the players in this second party were much better. We didn't even have a full party - only five people. We ended up doing very well with me as the ONLY melee job. The rest were two blm, one whm and a bard.

So yeah... game experience may change during online play.

                        LOL
Was the remaining war a war/mnk or war/nin. Either way they're stupid. You have two monks (who like you said can tank well enough early on) to backup voke for war to recast utsu/ get some hp back before dieing if /mnk. Brd would help with all sorts of things and make you probably chain faster. Calling people noobs for preferring the brd is just assinine.

Wiseman, I'm on Hades server. Go and PM me this person's name and the LS that they're with. Boy, do I to stir up trouble. Mwahaha.

P.S. And I promise I won't have my JP friends go and do something horrible to them and have a JP GM play dumb when the victims complain. =P

Haha I don't think that's necessary. At the risk of sounding like a hippie I think they're their own punishers.

Thanks for the offer though it's very good of you.

Odd, when I started I read a guide that complained that people seem to have a stereotype that drks are all depressing goth kids... Most of the in game help I've gotten so far has been from drks. They seem to be happier than the whms...

It's odd, but most of the depressive, anti-social, gothic type of kids on Hades play as RNGs, DRGs and WHMs. ;O Maybe they're sadistic in that way *shrugs* Guess you know which group you'd want to stay away from, but unfortunately, you can't avoid them in your partying career.
