I have a hard time balancing real life and the game and it seems that real life is winning. I have a full time job, school full time plus a wife and 3 year ol daughter that seem to constantly need my attention. Also, one of my subjects is Calculus which is kind of tough for me so I am devoting a lot of personal time to that. I find that if I'm lucky I might get to play 5-10 hours a week and that even hurts some of my other responsibilities. But I know I love playing this game I always try to set some time aside for it. I just try to take care of everything I need to during the day and then I play for an hour or two before I go to sleep. Plus, Thanksgiving is coming up and the end of the school semester so then I can just go nuts on those days. So for someone like me it is hard to balance but I just keep on keepin on because I enjoy playing.

HI I wanted to contribute..

To stop Burnout and spend Time with my family and friends And work.
I only play FFXI 9 out of 12 months. So at every 4th month I take a "Mandatory" Break from any Games and focus on my family. Since My kid is 11 now I dont need to hover over her as much as I used to. Balancing dating is easy also Since I work a full time job I have the weekends to do that. I hang out with friends every few weeks for sushi and barbecueing and what not. I generally play ffxi at 1pm or later. so my day isnt influenced very much by FFXI. Since I play primarily with Silent line or my JP ls. Silent line is full of importers and jp with a few NA/Euro, who have various play times. Its easy to balance things .

1 skin = 1k
dark crystal = 6~8k
1 stack of sheep leather = 30k

Difference is about 10k. Stacks move faster than a single piece. Stacks are easier on the inventory. So, sheep leather caps at 2 or 3. That means anyone can make sheep leather on the go with a chance of about 5% breakage, not a bad trade off. So, the difference may be only 10k, but because you can farm longer (due to your inventory not being stressed out) and you can also sell sheep tooth (10~12K per stack here) and the occasional Tremor Ram pops (Rampaging if you're lucky enough) with horns and skins from that going for about 2k each, you're more efficient this way.

One "run" and I'm already up by 45K to 75K in profits and I'm not working up a sweat to do this. Then you add gardening to this (Grow fire crystals and such) and we're talking about a virtual bank across several mules. Like ... if I wasn't so lazy, I could be making about 4~6 million gil a month.

this is also what i found to be the least involved and time consuming way make gil.

i also dont have much time to play. i usually get 2-3 hours a day if any at all. during those times i pick 1 of the following:

1) check to see who is seeking 73-75. if theres more than 1 other ninja seeking. no ninja time.

2) play bst.

3) mine/quest preparation/mog house organization. (all easy things to do and you feel you are productive still)

4) just camp shouts for any not so time consuming events in lower jeuno.

at times i feel burnt out. lots of people that i used to help are now on to bigger and brighter things. it feels like ive been left behind but, i remind myself that RLâ„¢ matters are still most important.

Well, I just don't get too caught up with what other players are doing. If I do, I'll get in trouble. So what if player X got to 75 already, even when he was 30 levels below me 3 months ago? Those kinds of things will affect your psychology when you play.

Don't let it get to you Omni. Besides, about 80% of players who get to 75 on one job don't do much of anything. They end up just socializing. Once you get to 75, guess what? You get to do the same things they've been doing for the past year.



BTW, just noticed you're at 74 as a NIN. Sooo ... why are you still stressing about these players? You can pretty much do anything and everything as a 74+ NIN.

yea, i totally understand. you cant gauge your worth/success by where other people are in life, ffxi, etc. but, its just like all the other kids are outside playing already and im stuck inside doing chores, so to speak


my only option? hypnotize the gf into a ffxi fiend!

edit: yea but with 2-3 hours max playtime at any given time, you cant really organize anything too big. dynamis, hnm, missions and most bcnm are out of the question. i'd hate joining up to do something then have to leave the bunch in the middle of it or right after we finish. just feels too selfish of a thing to do.

edit II: i've given some thought about playing other less intensive mmo's. my housemate/bestfriend is trying to get me to start up wow. honestly, ive given it a little thought. the grind isnt too hard, you can cap out in a couple months with leisurely playing, and i have some other friends playing too...

then i snap out of it and slap myself for even thinking about leaving my omni.

No, don't leave Omni =( I hate seeing all the good players leave this game.

BTW, for Dynamis, if you can find a good group, you can at least "farm" for currencies and AF2 pieces with a smaller group and less of a time constraint. It requires a lot of money collectively (The larger the group, the easily afforded the hourglass) but even with barely more than an alliance you can do this. Some of the Dynamis, with the right strat, can be completed with just 20-24 players, but this requires most of them to be veterans in that group. I doubt anyone new in there will be prepared for that.

thank you for the compliment and oh no, i wont be leaving any time soon. id blindly pay the monthly fees rather than deleting omni. heck, i even offered to pay for my rl friends char too for when he goes off to law school so i can hold it for him till he gets back. a bit neurotic? maybe.

im really picky about things, but when i find something, im fiercely loyal to it.

yea tried that 3 times. heh, its all fun and games till you go into dynamis w/ no blm. not pretty at all.

Although i have only been playing for about 6 weeks, this is how i usually play...

I have a 8am-5:30pm job in real life, I go to the gym 3 times a week after work and also help a disabled mate out whos house bound who i visit every night to do a few things for him, after eating most nights it is about 9pm before I sit down. I enjoy nothing more than relaxing in front of my computer, and FFXi has certainly made my evenings less dull. I noramlly do about 2 hours a night 9-9:30pm-11:11:30pm I go out during the day on saturday and sunday with friends or do the family thing so most times you see me is in the evening. i average 2 hours a day and I don't get burned out this way, also I have sort of got it into a routine so your body like routines and you don't get burned out as often. Due to low levels I hvn't got to the stage of having to party being necessary (i.e. join a party not have a party ) I have on occasion when not doing anything on a sunday play more, but we all do that.
