If you have widescan, only the first fly on the list is a placeholder, and will respawn every five minutes. Just use a stopwatch ^^
What's your basis for this? I've never been able to figure out a pattern to the widescan list (they're not arranged by proximity nor mob type/family) so if you could shed some light on that statement...

        Re: emperors hairpin

Well widescan does arrange it by sectors if you cut the map in half from your location vertically and horizonatally. This general makes the first few monsters on the list will be the furthest to the NE corner, after those ones it becomes the furthest generally to the SE corner (Usually first page of mobs shown some can be on second page as well). Once you get to the mobs closer to you then all those will be ones of closest proximity, and after that the last 1-2 pages are the monsters further away to the NW and SW sides.

It's got a sort of distances measurement from you, East side of corse being positive distance and West side being negative distance from you. If your RNG 30+ and using WS for NMs if the NM has a tight enough spawn area or you are near the East most of it's spawn it's pretty safe to ignore the first 1-3 pages. Saves you a lot of time with such a huge WS range

As far as this deal with the timing it though? There is a sort of theory I heard, in a way I guess it can almost be real. I have my doubts on it still but the theory is that a placeholder for those mobs tend to spawn at a faster rate then the other mobs. So I guess he's saying to measure the time of when one respawns first on the WS, if killed and comes back quickly after it has a chance of being were VE spawns next.

In a way I could see the theory as somewhat sound, but I don't know if SE would really go that far in the complexity for it.

That only works in theory if there's ... something on the list. Usually (on my server) everyone kills EVERYTHING ... because everyone is thinking the same thing ... spam provoke.

(Or you could go against your User Agreement and risk being thrown in jail by hacking your .dat files and removing the monsters in that area so that your spam provoking only air until the NM pops)

Yeah, I noticed that last time I camped him. Got to the point where I'd skip the fist cpl pages, then the last page or two as well. Not sure when the widescan area increases, but by 50 its half of dunes. With a little lag it can take a while to scan the whole thing.
