You NPC, or at least mine waits until i'm like 98%-100% TP and says something.. don't remember what at the moment.. something like "Ready when you are" and they'll either lead or wait for you.

I'm pretty sure the info about when they use Weaponskills was posted on the first page. First page the thread starter has been updating his info. If it must be repeated then it goes basically as follows:

If you are at 0-49% TP when your NPC friend reaches 100% they will go without waiting. If you have told your NPC to report to you when they are ready then at 50%-99% they will give a message to let you know they are ready. If the NPC is at 100%+ and you are 50%-99% then the instant you hit 100% the NPC will use their WS.

If you heal the NPC does to and their TP will decrease just like we do, if they are still over 100% and your healing brings your TP down to 49% or lower then the next one the NPC engages they will use their WS at start. This is were some people experience their NPCs never using a WS is because their TP hangs around 50%-99%.

There are other conditions too that I have noticed that will wipe the NPCs TP, for example when they level up their TP gets erased.

I zoned, healed because with both of those AoEs, I lost a lot of HP. I went back in, built up TP with my THF buddy, and we wiped it out quick. Now I just have to go take on the DRG. Which my THF buddy will get into his Lv.50 DRG. He has Lv.40 gear, and I'm going as my RDM38.
Please note that if your thf buddy is not actually on the quest or not at this stage of the quest, then he/she will not be able to enter the bcnm with you. But, as ppl stated, a lvl 37 should be fine fighting solo naked with a warp club. ^^

I'll most likely use it to farm, but I kill a lot of Easy Prey when I'm farming, so having a skillchain will help me big time. Just wanted to know how this works.
Here are the npc behavior regarding ws use:
          • when the mob you are fighting is above 50% health and your npc reaches 100% tp, it will tell you and wait until you have 100% and use a random ws.
          • when the mob is below 50% tp and reaches 100% tp, it won't tell you and will use a random ws when you have 100%.
          • if the mob is near death and your npc reaches 100% tp, it will not tell you and not use ws even if you reach 100%. It will likely use a ws and the very start of next battle and may get hate.

I'm prolly forgetting stuff. But, that's a basic rundown. YMMV.

Edit: Macht said stuff that I forgot. I forgot that it matters if you have 0-49% because I play sam and have above 50% most of the time.

Has anyone been able to find out if headgear actually does anything? Also, has anyone been able to break the 50 cap yet? Or is that the end for now.

Well our gang has been exping steadily since Fastcart's npc reached 50. He hasn't gained a lvl yet. ; ; So no break in the lvl cap here even though he's tried several different things to see if he could figure out how.

                    Oh I see. ;;

Btw I just got this hot off the press:

"The FINAL FANTASY XI development team is currently working on the next version update! Adventurers can expect additions to the Fellowship system, new areas, and several other changes. Details will be posted to the Topics section as soon as they are released, so keep checking back for more information! The version update will take place in early October. "

This is what I expect them to add:

                      A. A third Weapon upgrade

                      B. More choices for Head gear

                      C. Possibly more "Let's talk about Appearances" Choices

                      D. New Storyline *1

                      E. Level cap raised.

                      F. Better Earring *1

                      G. More weapon choices...*2

                      H. More Styles*3

                      I. Possibly a unique Artifact Armor for NPCs. *4

*1 = 2 things: New storyline would either follow the little girl or investigating why the Dragon was there. Better Earring would probably be reward for the quest

*2 = We still have no Gun/Boomerang(Most likely)/Bow on NPC

*3 = We have Attacker,Shield, and healer. Why don't we try for a Black mage? One that could debuff.

*4 = They could design a special Armor for the styles that are spin offs of the actual Jobs. Depending on what Style and Weapon your NPC took up. As in: Attacker,Great Katana = Spin off of SAM AF. That way it'd be kinda hard to find a NPC w/ the same kinda armor. Also: Shield,Great Katana would = maybe a mix of PLD and SAM AF?

Also they could lower it to like 10hrs... 1hr Is kinda unlikely...

What I want to see for gear options is to be able to choose the item and see that your choosing it. My npc wears a pin of some sort I imagine. I say "I imagine" because you can't tell if he has headgear on or off.

I would also like to see more interaction with your npc. How about at rendevous points you are able to have a random chat with your npc. What you choose either raises or lowers your connection with them. Therefore raising would lower the amount of time between calls? Lowering your connection would decrease the time they stay out? I know they are easily mapped and people will just make a guide for it but some sort of twist to beef it up a bit.

I can only imagine a "Remember that time you got me killed.." question.

                            As for a debuffer, my healer casts debuffs all the time. Slow, paralyze, dia2, silence. It would be nice to have her only silence mage types though. ^_^;;

I have a level 32 Healer NPC with second weapon upgrade sword+sheild (I'm a MNK, one hand sword goes well with H2H) and I think that NPCs are a lot stronger than people give them credit for. Their accuracy is absolutely insane. You can have your level 30 NPC fight things which are IT to a 75 and they will still land 80% of their attacks and spells. Yes, even the spells like Slow, Paralyze, and Silence will land successfully on enemies that high most of the time.

Also, their damage is not dependent on the enemy as much as ours is it seems. Liabelle hits for a very consistent range of damage (15-30) on just about anything she attacks, regardless of level. I'm sure there is more to this, but we will see.

As far as NPC updates, I would expect to see a bit shorter of a recast timer on Signal Pearl, the ability to level past 50 (with a quest likely), possibly a 3rd weapon upgrade, and perhaps being able to call them in more areas.

It dosen't really make sense as to why you can't just call an NPC anywhere. If you only get them for 30 minutes to an hour a day its not terribly unbalancing. I think it would be interesting to try some BCNM or ENM with NPCs. You take a big risk by not having a real person in their place, but I think it could work. Most NPCs will go down in a big hurry versus most HNM anyway, so why not be able to call them?
