  • The Order of Missions

Hi. I know this is a newbe question and I should do research before I ask this, and that it should be OBVIOUS if I just thought about it, but... I just HAVE to ask even after doing everything I mentioned above.

What order should I go through the missions 'story-line' wise? I ask because the missions seem to be scattered. The new expansion missions are lvl 40 (I think), and I can get to them *now*, while I still have not done Rank 5-1 mission (with fighting the skeletons).

If the expansion (CoP) came after, is it more proper to do the expansion missions much later? I *can* do them now, but does it make sense story-line wise?

I don't know if I made the dilema clear or not, but I hope its understood. Help me out if you can guys.

    Hi Modnar

I don't think it really matters. I haven't heard of any significant intertwining of plots between the different expansions.

I have done all the normal FFXI Missions for Windurst and done alot of the Zilart ones and they have no relation to each other at all (other than you need Rank 6 to start the Zilart missions).

I suspect the CoP will be the same and be detatched from the other missions.

Yeah, I'm not sure there's any relation to the nation missions (besides rank 6 for Zilart, like Dux said) to CoP.

Mabye bits and pieces here and there, but nothing noticeable prolly.

Timeline wise the order of the missions goes like this:

Nations Missions -> Zilart Missions -> Promathia Missions

Now, even though that would be the "correct" order to do the missions in, it is in not necessary at all to do them in that order to understand the storyline. For example, I have cleared Windurst's Nation Missions, on the AAs for Zilart Missions, and am currently on CoP 4-3 and have had no problem with enjoying the storyline. If I had my way I would do all the missions in the "correct" order I listed above, but unfortunately it is not always easy to find people to finish the missions you would like to or need to do.

Not to mention you might not be leveled enough to do them in the right order...

Anyway this is the order I've always gone by.

          Nation Missions Rank 1-6
          Rise of the Zilart
          Nation Missions Rank 6-10
          Chains of Promathia

Cr's method is the way I went.
Except that I had rank 10 before Promathia was released.

Before rank 6 all Nation missions tie into the overall storyline.

            Ill give you a hint

Nation missions Rank 1-5 = Build up to the shadowlord.

Ziraat missions "finishes" the tale of the Shadowlord and their rise to power.

Nation missions rank 6-10 tell the tales of the destiny of each nation in the grand scheme of Vanadiel lore.
Some NPC's from ziraat missions are also present in the last few nation missions.

Promathia picks up maybe 1 day to 1 week AFTER ziraat.

Its the culmination of the destiny of the Children of Altana and the one prophisied by the Kuluu.

Various Quests that enhance the overall storyline.
Like Dynamis finishes the Shadowlord storyline permanently, But With Diabolos' tale, weaves something new into Dynamis lore

But yeah rank missions after rank 5 have nothing to do with the fate of Vanadiel.

Well the Bastok missions sort of show the effects of Raogrimm and Ulrich's "encounter" in Xarcarbard. As Zeid finds out the truth and confronts Volker, Ulrich's nephew about it. So they're kind of tied in.

But yea, rank 6-10 is more or less facing the dark secrets of each country, bringing them to light, and solving them.

Sandoria Missions 13-20 give additional story to Tavnazia. Bastok missions 13-20 give additional story to the Shadowlord. From what I have heard, Windurst missions 13-20 give additional story to the Zilart.

If you're into backstory make sure to try the San d'Orian quest starting in South San d'Oria regarding the hero named the Obsidian Sword. I can't remember the name of the quest, but a Medieval Collar is your reward. Long, but awesome cutscenes.

The quest I mentioned above is called "A Timely Visit" and is started by Deraquien (G-8) - a guard in Scale Armor who is standing on the East side of the gate to Watchdog Alley.
