  • Expensive drops that AREN'T from NMs

I just started THF/NIN. I hear that they can get a lot of gil from farming at high levels (especially after TH2). I am only a level 7 THF and level 10 NIN right now, so I know I've got a ways to go, but I'm just wondering what drops AREN'T from NMs and sell for a nice amount of gil. If you could list those you know, that would be very helpful to me and other farmers-in-training.

Kill bogys in Valk, they drop a 1k gil cloth. It's not that much, but considering how many noobs train them, it could add up.

Chyme is not a NM but its drop is NM worthy. Archer Ring... you say that name on Midgardsormr and the first thing on everyone's mind is 'expensive'. 600K+ now. @_@; poor DRK/SAM/DRG/MNKs... I laugh at them XD.

Goobbues drop tree cuttings which you can sell for decent gil. There are also cockatrice which drop meat, I think you can farm those in Meripthaud (sp...) Mountains depending on the level of your +30 job and assuming you still have gear for it (and what class it is). You won't be able to really farm goobbues for awhile though.

At Lv 7 the best you can do are crawlers in Sarutabaruta for their silk.

goobue tree cutting drops are extremely rare, ive went on a genocide on there species in both pashalow marshlands and rolanberry fields and got 1 cutting after an hour. Once you are higher lvl though (45-50) you can camp treant in Batallia downs.

If the IGE scumbags are not camping it then you can take a shot at it, its drops are rare but at least you have a chance to get either a mistletoe (4k for 1, 45k a stack) or oak logs (around 3-4k), these prices are on fenrir. Its respawn time is 5 minutes and 30 seconds. Think of it as a farmers version of camping.

Yeah pashhow and rolanberry seem to have crap drop rates on them. If you are heart-set on farming cuttings wait till +60 and try Zi'tah which is camped as it is. At 61 I can solo the goobbues there but it takes a min or two for me to kill one (I'm a WHM give me a break ). They have a much better drop rate, a Lv 69 SMN and I killed them while we waited for the rest of our SMN AF group to get to Zi'tah much less the tree.

If you farm goobbues in pashhow and rolanberry it would be mainly for the moss but I don't think the drop rate justifies the time needed to get many pieces. Luckily there are also crawlers and other mobs to kill (elementals, bats etc.)

Well, I guess you can make profit off of tigers at lvl 28-29+ in Jugner and lvl 35-38+ in Batallia Downs (safely and consistantly, rest times may be often if you are just strong enough). They drop Black Tiger Fangs fairly often which you can turn in to a San quest for San d'Oria fame and 2.3k (for 3 Fangs). They also drop Tiger Hide, although less often, which sells pretty well, but they don't stack like the Fangs do. Anyway, you can also farm elementals starting at lvl 25 (estimated number for the eles in La Thiene) as well. They're a bit more rare to come in contact with, but as long as you know where to be at the right times (check the weather woman in Lower Jeuno) you can make a decent profit from their Cluster drops (these are a guarenteed drop). Be cautious, though, because elementals vary from lvl 23-50+, so make sure you know exactly which one you need to be going for. Also, it might come in handy to have RDM ready for a sub, or even a main, if you plan to hunt eles a whole lot. Their weapon enchantments and enfeebles work great for the corisponding elemental.

I was trying to think of great places to farm near the lower lvl spectrum to get you started off early with your THF, but tigers and eles was all I could come up with without giving away all my great secrets . I've heard most high lvl farming happens in and around the Derfland region (Pashow, Rolanberry, Beadeaux) hunting Goobues, Malboros, Quadav, and Goblins, but you'll have to look into it further. I, personally, haven't farmed there. Anyway, I hope this all helped you out, and good luck with your THF career.

EDIT: Fixed the mistakes Regulator caught.

At 32 Tigers are around your lvl, there not farmable. Around late 40s and up you can take them on consistently. And hides dont stack unfortunetly.

For low-mid level farming I'd recommend sticking to farming silk threads in East and West Sartabaruta. If you have Treasure Hunter 1 the drop rate is increased enormously, and for stacks going at 10-11k a stack (on Sylph), can you really go wrong?

I know with Treasure Hunter 2 for my thief it takes me about 20-30 minutes to build a full stack, which is VERY easy money. I have my Ochidou's Kote waiting for me in my safe with the Gil I've acculauted from silk threads alone. ^^

Ha, this is not only my first post.. I come here often, but have never felt I needed to contribute, but it's on Gutch (Svena)'s thread. Hehe..

I suggest you level THF to 15, get TH1, and level MNK back up to 30 if you can. Head out to Palborough MNK/THF for a full inventory's worth of Quad. Backplates as you don't need a weapon. At 800g/ea. that's 24k/30. You shouldn't have any problem getting the drops with TH1 as I used to do this every once in a while, and the longest waits are not on the drops, but Amethyst spawns. Take a break if you've wiped the place clean and come back a few minutes later. As long as somsone else isn't doing the same, there should be plenty there anyways.

You know it's fun when we talk all the time, and I have to post on a forum to answer your question.

"Farming" at the lower levels is much different then it is later in the game.

To Lv.30 I farmed silk, and Yagudos. Gil drops, Yag Beads, Silver beastcoins. I know the quest for Yag beads doesn't pay much, but if you're working towards Norg fame - doing it over a long period of time, it might not seem so annoying.

But I synthed the Yag Beads. As I recall, a stack of Grass Cloth was 5k. Last stack I sold was 4.2k. I don't recall my farming output then, but now, I can make 2k an hour just from gil drops. And usually can make 1.5 stacks of cloth in that amount of time. (I hunt the Yags that drop Kazham keys. More gil, but they seem to drop less beads.) I also Steal Silver beastcoins (5k/stack) and they also drop them.
