  • NM/HNM Timer program

Everything is based on mathematics so NM/HNM spawn times can be calculated by a timer program... right?

Well it must be right bc JP know exact spawn times

any ideas on how a program like that can work or if it even exists?

Not true. Most NMs and HNMs run on a 21-24 hour schedule. The pop time within the 21-24 hour period is completely random. HOWEVER, there are three HNMs that are exceptions to this: Fafnir, Behemoth, and Admantoise. They pop during certain intervals of the 21-24 hour period. That's why when you have a few linkshells camping these HNMs, you may have some stick around to note the time of death *wink*.

Adamantoise, Fafnir, and Behemoth are unique HNMs because they will always spawn either 21, 21.5, 22, 22.5, 23, 23.5, or 24 hours after they were last killed.

This is why you must use /clock when killing, to get the exact time of death so you know exactly when it will spawn.

Most other 21-24 HNMs (Roc, Simurgh, Serket) are random, and can spawn any time during that interval.

Lottery NMs are completely different, but they usually have a timer associated with them as well.

The most important thing to know about a NM or HNM, is the time that it was last killed. From that you can easily determine when it will spawn.

Concering the pop interval on most NM/HNMs, this has already been talked about in a previous thread. But basically, because this is a computer driven, there cannot be completely truely random numbers so if a person had a large data pool of poptimes on a particular NM, they could probably figure out the patern. Do I think that people know the paterns yet? Nope, they probably do not.

One thing I have seen is people in the scientific community hooking up sampling devices and measuring some external phenonema like sound noise or light intensity as a random value or just even as the seed value. But I dont think they do that for FFXI. I have yet to see any MMO mention using such an external device.

As for Fafnir, Behemoth and Adamantoise, that is quite interesting that they always pop at the 1/2 hour intervals. I wonder why S-E did that? (Assuming they intended those pops to work that way).
