No, the fact that the earrings are shown in yellow means that you CAN equip them, not that the latent effect will be triggered by your job. They obviously wanted people to experiment with these earrings. It's not like its that big of a deal to buy some earrings, then just sell them back for exactly the same price. Then again, you could've just done a little research.

Actually, latent effect just means that the effect is there, but it can only be triggered by certain circumstances. Some items have latent effects on them which are triggered by having low HP for example.

It's quite easy actually. The item name corresponds to the subjob which is needed to trigger the latent effect. Wrestler's earring for monk subjob, Genin earring for ninja subjob. It's really not that hard when you look at the complete list of LV30 Latent effect earrings to pick out which one goes with which subjob. So to sum it all up, be wary when you purchase any equipment with "Latent Effect" on it before doing research....

Obviously someone is mad that they couldn't figure out the earings

It is really obvious when you think about it, and if you did make a mistake buying one then you CAN resell them... although judging by the resposnce your probably one of those people that puts everything in AH for 1gil thinking it will sell fast, and then complain when it sells for 1gil and that some @sshole wouldn't send you more moneywhen you sent him a worded /tell about HOW theyshould bidexactly what you wanted to make on the sale.

I'll admit I wasn't 100% sure what triggered the effect, but mylogic worked like this:
      1. There are how manyof these earrings? hmm looks like one for each job class...

      2. I know Square, and they would NEVER put something as latent effect and have it for your MAIN job, so what other way could they make it affect the job you have

      3. Conclusion: Well if it wouldn't affect your main job, then it must effect your SUBJOB.

      4. /em checks names of the earrings for hints of what subjobs they would work for.

Maybe this comes for years of RPG's and gaming in general... but seriously its pretty basic logic... but then again I've noticed quite a few people that can't think for themselves in the game... or mindlessly shout in Bastok because its easier than send a /tell... so whether you are lazy, ignorant, young, naive, stupid, etc is up to you, seems like A LOT of other people figured this out on there own... maybe they should send certain people to Remedial FFXI... put them all on one server, give them a bottle of glue to eat and save us all a headache or two.

Djjosh71 - Avatar Belt works that way, (I'll just let you take a guess on what job you need to sub for that), so I'd probably lay money on all of them performing the same.

What's annoying with Latent Effects is that they've got two different triggered Latent Effect classes now: This new line that works when the correct job is subbed, and the old line that worked when your hp fell below a certain point. It would be nice if S-E would change the descriptions to read "Latent Effect 1:" for the old line and "Latent Effect 2:" for the new, but for now you've just gotta look at the required level and hope that gives you enough clues.

I disagree with you, Argh, it took me only slightly longer than Grand Lethal to figure these things out, didn't seem like quite the leap of thought you argued. The biggest reason it took me longer was because I remember the old effects and spent too much time trying to figure out how half these jobs would get hp into the red at that level.
