  • Question On Airships

I am planning on buying the game soon. I am just wondering about airships and how they work. I've seen how cool they are in the previous Final Fantasy games, but i'm wondering on how they work in FFXI.

How much does it usually cost to ride an airship?

Can you walk around and/or see scenery under and around the airship, or does it act as a portal, where it's instant transportation?

Is there only one airshit, or are there many?

How often can you ride an airship? If they dock and you get on, how many times a day, or how often do they arrive?

Thanks so much! I'd greatly appreciate any information at all. Also, if you can thell me about chocoboes and ferries and other forms of transportation, that'll be great. THANKS!

    200g

You're aloud to go on deck and see the scenery. There's also a 'hack' that allows you to go over the side.

I don't think there are any airshits. (Sorry, I don't normally make fun of typos, but airshits is funny as hell :p)

I believe there are 4, one for each area, considering how long it takes to go there and back.

You can ride it however many times you want as long as you have a pass.

They arrive about every 13 minutes from their previous take off in that area. The actual ride when you take off is 3 minutes, but it stops for about 5 minutes in the docs so that people can catch the ship.

In order to get a pass, you have to pay either over 100k or be above rank5. This excludes the kazham airship, which requires you to get 3 keys.

Also, if you can thell me about chocoboes and ferries and other forms of transportation, that'll be great. THANKS!
    1) Chocobos - You can get these in most towns and at crags, and cost anywhere form 50g-1000g. You can get a pass once you hit level 20, and the quest is pretty easy though it does take some time. Even though you have to be level 20 to get a pass, you can rent one from towns once you hit 15 (you have to be 20 to get them from crags though).

    2) Ferries - I'm assuming this would be the ship from Selbina to Mharua. Long. Ass. Ride. Costs 100-200g (don't remember) to ride, and you don't need a pass. Just becareful of Sea Horror (an NM) and pirates.

    3) Teleportation - the only other transportation I can think of. White Mages get spells to allow them to transport their party to crags and other areas. You'll be using this most of the time when you get around 30ish. Normally costs 500g, though it depends on the WHM (sometimes they are nice and do it for free, othertimes it costs 2000! )

Sorry just had to point out the funny typo

Jeuno acts as the airship "terminal" where you can get airships to bastok, windurst, sandoria and kazham. Each airship ride costs 200 gil, and arrive at different intervals of time depending on how far the area is away. You can walk around on the airship while it is going and you actually see birds fly by, and you can see scenery beneath you. Airship rides last anywhere from a few mintues to almost 10, and you can walk around talking to people and doing whatever you normally do while you take the airship ride.

It's not a hack in any sense, there's just a glitchy part of the wall that lets you run up ...

To clarify, the Airship Pass is 500,000 gil, not 100,000 gil, and the Kazham Airship Pass is 140,000 gil. After you get a Pass and/or a Chocobo License, you'll wonder how you ever got around.

There are also quests involving the Airships, in which you have to ride the Airship at a certain time and on a certain day and select a '???' marker, and a few others where you have to deliver items to NPCs riding the ship.

Wow, airship pass costs a lot. It an airship pass for one ride, or can you ride it an unlimited amount of times? If you buy the 200 G ticket, it that a one-way trip?

also on the teleportation thingy. when u run supplies to outposts that are under your current country allegiance's control u get the ability to teleport to them for a fee and i think even if it is under a foriegn country. must be lvl 20 to use. also lets say u ran one to valkurm and u are lvl 20 running from bastok to san u can just go to the outpost in the duens and teleport to san d i think from any outpost to home is always 200 gil i think. but going from san to say valkurm i was almost charged 800 gil i think because san d was last at the time and not in control of the area

The airship pass is required before you can ride them period. No one ever pays those prices, to my knowledge... through quests you can get both passes (Kazham around level 25 and the other one around level 40). After you have the pass, you pay 200 gil to get on the airship. You can stay on it as long as possible, but if you get off, you have to pay again. There's one ferry, which goes from one end of the world to the other, and costs 100 gil. Anyone can ride them. For Chocobo's, you must do a quest at level 20 to get your license. After that, you pay based on how many other people have rented chocobo's there. I've seen it as low as 80 gil and as high as 6000.

no one EVER pays to buy the airship passes :b

basically, there is a quest involved to ride the airship to kazham (and area that *was* a prime leveling spot for your late 20s and early 30s, but is now reduced to a hellhole that people still go to despite BETTER leveling areas around that get ignored *sigh*)

                        there is a mission that allows you to ride an airship, most people do this mission at around 36~40 but i've seen a subjob-less 19BLM do the mission before...he was in my PT when i did mine...only brought him because he had all the maps with proper directions ; ;

Airship's arrive at docks in the 3 nations (and kazham) and transport you to Jeuno (So if you wanted to go from one city to another you could ride from your city to jeuno then to your destination) and it costs 200gil to enter the dock at whichever city you're on. As long as you don't leave the dock when you arrive at your destination, you can ride back and forth as many times as you want without having to pay any extra fees.
*While on the airship you can do an easy quest that rewards you over twice the price of the ticket, look over the edge of the ship and view the world as you fly over it, and do anything from chat with mates to making items.

Ferrys are a different beast. Riding one costs 100gil and getting to them can prove to be quite difficult as they're guarded by dangerous zones for players under level 25. Once on the ship, you can watch as you sail past islands and such and also fish. However, there is a chance that you'll fish up monsters (and also break your fishing rod, which happens more often on the ship than in other areas) Some of these monsters are weak as hell and can be beat with little effort, but some can wipe out the entire ship...even semi-high level players Also, there is a chance that you'll be invaded by pirates which is terribly fun (and dangerous) but also extremely rare.

Airship rides last 3 minutes and ferries last 15

The thing on Teleportations from out post not sure if you can go from your home town if they are not under your control I haven't tried. But from them outpost to your home town at any time you can be teleported to that region outpost (granted you did supply quest to them.) The price of the teleportation is 200/800, 200 when region is under your country control and 800 when it is not.

I will have to go to sandoria sometime and see if I can teleport to any not in our control at the time that I have done supply quest too.

You can port to any area you've done a supply quest to, regardless of whether or not it's under your control at that moment.. But to do the supply quest it has to be under your control.

I did this supply quest once, I had no idea I could now port to the outpost.
