This game is too real (RANT)

This has been bothering me for a long time.

Why is it that this game has become a reflection of the problems in our society? Isn't this where we come to escape?

I spent this entire day working and logged on to relax a little. Two people walked into the middle of our PT and started badgering us. Constant messages even after replies of full. We were nice for the first ten or so replies, but finally lost our patience and got upset. Then a PT nearby started calling us rude when they had no understanding of what was going on. I was so angry I just had to log off.

My point is this: why is a game so frustrating?

Why have we created a world where we often do not like being? We have established a world full of racism, ageism, socioeconomic disparity, economy problems, civil war, and various other forms of discrimination. Why? Why did we create a world that reflects all the things we hate about our own? Why do people feel the need to judge you rather than simply keeping their mouths closed?

Don't get me wrong. I love this game. But the people in this game can be so frustrating. I have met countless people that I have found interesting and caring, but for every one of those I have found ten that made me doubt our civilization.

I'd like to hear people's opinions on this situation, but not on my experience. My experience is my own.

Topic: This is vana'diel! It is the Fantasy Earth. There are Unlimited ways to play the game Your way. AT times its fustrating, but Do u want a MMORPG that u get everything? Kinda too ez. I like the AH it is similar to The Supply and demand rules.

Of course the game is too real; it is played by real players. How people act in-game reflects their actions/attitudes in real life. If you want to play a game where everyone is kind and courteous, play a single player RPG. But don't let a few bad eggs ruin your gaming experience. In my experience in online games, there's much more of the good poeple than bad.

Yeah. In a game populated by real people, there are gonna be jackasses just like in real life. I run into a few, but they are in the minority. Give it a few days if you need to, the good far outweighs the bad. Keep your pointy-eared chin up

Maybe Square Enix wanted to create a fictional world, but it would be inhabited by all the real world buttmonkeys that live in our world. That way we can see to another degree how annoying people can be.

It's a reflection on the buttpirates of our world because there are buttpirates that play it. Don't let it get to you though. I guarantee that in your time playing FFXI you'll find more nice people than rude people.

It is the most ignorant response you can have to someone's honest complaints. He is making a rant, BUT specifically pointed out that he loves this game, BUT has this one complaint about it.

He didn't say he hated this game, or wanted to stop playing just is making a complaint, because this game, and the players in the game are not perfect.

I wish people didn't "cop out" and use the "if you don't like it you can get out" response to everyone's complaints.

Why do we create such a world with all these? Well, if you think about it, what other kind of world could we possibly create? That's just the way society works. It has a lot more perks than it does problems. After all, do you want an anarchy system with PK'ing all the time?

Don't let things like that get 'ya down. I know it's tough, but know that you are right.

I knew someone would reply with "If you don't like it, then leave." That is my entire point. Instead of offering advice and support like the enlightened people we claim to be, we cast dispersions on anyone and everyone. It was actually very poignant that this was the first reply I got to a rant on the unenlightened nature of many players. Next time I need help making a point, I'll let you know.

This world is populated by real people. I know that. I don't expect it to be perfect. But I did expect that a group of people could have the common sense to avoid the same discrimination they would abhor in life. Noone would ever make a racial slur in a public area IRL, but at any point in game you can hear people putting down races, jobs, and nationalities. Those are real people you're talking to. The problem isn't that I have forgotten that real people play this game. It's that other people have forgotten this.

And why exactly would people blast me for posting a rant here? There is no site policy for the placement of rants (that I know of) and the word rant is clearly visible in my title. If you didn't want to read a rant, then why did you click on it? Yu came in picking a fight rather than simply keeping your opinion to yourself.

You say you have met 10 dumbasses for every normal person? My experience has been the exact reverse and more. So either you picked a bad server/location. Or you simply have horrible horrible luck. Hey, if you ever want to try Pande, PM me, and I'll send you a WP.

Its not entirely real, monsters can walk through 1 foot thick metal doors, up cliffs and flawlessly track you anywhere if you don't zone (including using Mijin Gakure if your home point is w/i the same zone).

The reason people are more rude in a game like this I think is for two reasons.

One is that they have a degree of anonymity, and in that there is a certain degree of protection. They don't have to worry about the person they're insulting pulling out a gun, or beating the hell out of them. They don't have to worry about their reputation in the community suffering, ect. Though we have a community here in the game too, the consequences of misbehaving don't affect a person's "real life" and therefore can't be nearly as severe.

The other reason is probably is connected to the first reason. People play so they have an "escape" or a "release" from their frustrations in day to day life. In school, or at work, or in social situations, they may feel "forced" to behave in an at least somewhat cordial manner, but in the game, it isn't as necessary. They can't be the jackass that they are in real life, so they be a jackass to people in the game.

So the anonymity and nature of the virtual world is such that people's inhibitations against being rude, inconsiderate, ect. are not as great.

Oh, that and the fact that MMO players don't tend to be the cream of the crop in terms of social graces and maturity to begin with.

Unfortunately many people live out their on-line lives to fill the void left by their personal inadequacies. Several times on-line have I met people in person only to discover they are the exact opposite to their on-line persona. Most likely these people you're having problems with are living out on-line, their own personal desires.

If someone is a total jackass, most likely they can't stand up for themselves IRL and get bullied around in the lunch line. Don't let it get to you. If anything, pity these people and their pathetic lives. Wish no ill-will against them, it's not their fault, they're a product of society, nothing more.

what if martin luther king didn't like it so he left.. if ghandi didn't like it so he left... if lincon didn't like it and left... if all the important people in the history of the world didn't like it and left our world wouldn't of advanced itself and would of eventually died or went backwards instead of forward.

the heart of change and advancement is questioning and pointing out flaws,etc.

for all the people who use this response don't tell others how to handle things or what to do.. just because you handle everything by running away from it doesn't mean everyone else should use this same way.
