  • English/Japanese Phrases to be polite.

    I deleted the last topic because it had gotten out of hand.

    This is a simple area so with common phrases so we all can converse in Vana'diel.



    Heya Guys and Galls,

    I'm 100% pure white boy american, I minored in foreign languages in college. I am not fluent in Japanese by any means..

    These are for those in the world who want to be polite to other cultures without getting all angry and felling ignored.

    Eigo ga wakarimasu ka?
    Do you understand English?

    Tetsuidai! Koko e sugu koraremasu ka?
    Help, Can you come here right away?

    You can get creative with that one.. I use it when I'm being attacked.. I put my location in there and seems to actually get help ..

    Watashi no iu koto ga wakarimasu ka?
    Do you understand what I say?

    Hajimemashite - How do you do?
    Watashi no namae wa NAMEHERE desu. - My name is NAMHERE.
    Dozo yoroshiku.- I'm pleased to meet you.

    Ohayo gozaimasu - Good Morning
    Konnichiwa - Good afternoon
    Konbanwa - Good evening
    Oyasuminasai - Good night
    Ja, mata - See you again
    Sayonara - Good Bye!

    REMEMBER BE POLITE
    Chotto sumimasen. - Excuse me.
    Domo arigato gozaimasu - Thank you very much.
    Domo sumimasen - I'm sorry
    lidesu ka? is it okay?

    Umm Do shimashita ka? What happened...

    Ikura desu ka? How much..
    Nan-ji desu ka.. What time

    Okay students that's your lesson for today.. if you have questions don't worry .. ask...

    If I am wrong, please correct me as I'm not fluent in Japanese. I found them awhile ago on a jpn phrases site.. don't remember the url though.

    Mages:

    My MP has run out. - MP kire
    I'm sitting to recover MP. - suwarimasu
    Switch healing duties, MP has run out. - MP kirede suwarimasu kaifuku onegai shimasu
    Keep your TP, I'll heal you. - kaifuku ha suru kara, TP tamete oite ne

    PT:

    Would you like to join a PT? – isshoni PT kumimasenka?
    Please invite me. - sassotte kudasai
    Follow me please. - tsuitekite kudasai
    Please go ahead. - sakiniiko

    Monster:

    Weak - yowai
    Easy - yasashii
    Tough – tote

    Etc:

    I do not speak Japanese well. – Nihongo wa amari dekinai.
    I don't know. / I don't understand. - wakarimasen
    Do you understand? - wakarimasuka

      Real japanese dont understand Romaji (Roman characters). Altough i admire you, this is pointless. Use the ingame translator.

        You don't mean that those that do are only posing as Japanese? :sweat: I agree though roumaji is a poor substitution. Most JP gamers probably understand a lot of English phrases and words though, even if not completely.
