c'mon, we all know dragoons, dragooners, lancers and dragon knights are all exactly the same thing. They can all jump, are fairly agile and strong, and all that stuff.
And we also all know that they're not confirmed, there are no pictures, no official word from anyone official, so just shut up about it.

Ok here we go. Dragoons, Dargon Knights, and Lancers are all the same thing. Dragoneers are not. Draoneers are what Reis of FFT was. She had Dragon abilities in the sense she had 4 breath weapons and she could heal, tame, and lvl dragons up.

Dragoon/ Dragon Knight/ Lancer are all the same basic premise. I believe the first Dragoon was Kain in FFIV. He had the jump ability and wore dragon like armor. The next I believe was the job class in FFV. After that FFT had a lancer who was dressed in dragon armor and jumped into the sky to deal death from above like a dragon. Next was Freya of FFIX as a Dragon Knight. She could jump (as always) and possessed Dragon Knight skills. Finally we come to Kimarhi of FFX. He would best be described as a lancer because his innate overdrive is the Jump ability.

In actuality, there was a summoner in the FF series, goes by the name of Rydia, but she was called a "caller", she had the same abilities as a summoner as in like all the other FF games that had a summoner. She also had the wierd orb things that floated around her whenever she summoned something, just like the summoners in fft, or FF7 when you would summon something.

The orbs also appear in FFVIII if you look closely.

                  Ugh.

Dragoon is a French Calvaryman in the 17th Century, usually heavily armed. You think Square MADE UP the name Dragoon? No, they got it from a soldier way back when. Look it up.

                  UMMMM... NO!

Dragoon is the ENGLISH word for Dragonier, a LIGHT armored cavalryman from the 18TH Century! They were named after Louis De la Dragonière, a french nobleman from Rouen who had named his private bodyguards Dragoniers, they then grew in ranks and became a division of the French Imperial Army under Napoleon. Dragoniers were renown for their cunning speed and professionalism in battle, they wore little protection and used sabres to attack their ennemies, the most famous Dragonier is Sire Henri de Trémazac who became the chief captain of the Dragonier division, he was even rewarded by the emperor himself for his bravery in combat. He was defeated though in the great retreat from Prussia... Sorry for all this history but I have three good reasons:

                  - My father is a professor in the history faculty of l'Université de Rouen
                  - Sire Henri de Trémazac is my ancestor (NO JOKES!)
                  - I myself have lived in Rouen about two blocks from the Musée de Dragoniersde Rouen so there:p

                  TAKE THAT Dragooner Alex!

Sorry its just its really part of my history and I hate when people get it wrong...

Yeah, just because that happened, how do you know his version didn't happen?

So don't come off so offensive because if he made a mistake, he made amistake. Everyone gets something wrong about people's culture and history all the time, but for that kind of attitude, it's not really needed.

Im just happy someone other than me has played the NES FF3. woohoo Crazy T. I dont really care about the intention of hte title dragoon, i am aware of the origin of the word but i dont think anyone here is mistaken on the FF identity of one. Only the summoner has been confirmed sadly, but its a safe bet there will be other jobs. I would be shocked to see the ninja and dragoon left out since they have been around for a very long time in FF history.

Calm down... If I sounded offensive I'm sorry... Ok? The only reason it heated me up so much was because Dragooner Alex was acting mean toward the other kid and without proper reason but if I offended you Django, I'm sorry but you shoulda PMed me about it...

So take it easy man, ok? I'm sure if I was bragging to some guy about something that was close to you and I was wrong you'd be pretty pissed too right?

PS: There is no other version since the word Dragoon only goes up to about 1782...

                        Let's just all be friends....:spin:
