  • Viper Bite ------- Broken

Heya, well I've come to the conclusion that my weapon skill "Viper Bite" is broken. Viper bite in its discription says this. "Deals double damage and poisons. Duration of poison depends on TP"

So lets see, when i use reg Trick/sneak combo i can do anywhere from 200-320 damge. When I combo it with Viper then it should do 400-640 dmg. However, it does not. I played for about 6hours today and I didnt land 1 single hit 400+ hit with viper. but plenty 300+ hits with just trick and sneak. I found my regular trick/sneak attacks do more dmg on average then trick/sneak/viper actully, so whats the problem?

I petitioned a GM and he made a report about it, but I was wondering if its only broken for me or all thiefs

Some info that might be needed
    lvl 43 thief
    dex around 55
    Agi around 50
Attack with kabob and berserk 260

    Macro-
    /ja "Trick Attack" <me>
    /wait 1
    /ja "Sneak Attack" <me>
    /wait 1
    /ws "Viper Bite" <t>

    Thanks for your time

It never really doubled the total damage of fuidama for me, I'd guess it only doubles sneak damage alone or something.

Depends on what your fighting but mines works fine 42 thief was doing 500dmg with it on IT bats with sneak+trick doing 350dmg normal now on goblins or something only do like 360-400 sneak+trick doing like 260+. So its not broken are you sure your behind tank when your doing it and all?

Viper Bite is a two-hit WS, and Sneak Attack only affects the first hit. Without Sneak and Trick Attack, Viper Bite's strength is pathetic. XD

^ What he said. Be lucky, I do about 30ish total with it, and that's with a maxed dagger skill and a mithril baselard.

If i didnt know how to do trick/sneak then I wouldnt be able to do 200-300dmg every 60seconds. And i highly doubt I've screwed up every single Sneak/Trick~>Viper combo since I got Viper at lvl 33 =)

Viper Bite is a two-hit WS, and Sneak Attack only affects the first hit.
              Your missing the point

              Sneak attack does 200-300 dmg

Viper Bite DOUBLES dmg and it says that in the discription

So take 200-300 dmg, Double it and what do you get? 400-600 dmg

My viper with sneak does 250-360ish therefore its not doing DOUBLE dmg which leads me to the conclusion that it doesnt do what it's suppose too. AKA broken.

dude, 400 damage isn't something to be mad about
Would you be mad if you spent 33 lvls as a ninja to get some skill only to find out it doesnt do what its suppose too?

Either fix it or change the discription, I paid my 13.95 or whatever it costs a month and it better be fixed by the next bill period

If you always hit for 400 then yes, but that's not the case. Sneak is a one hit ability.

Did you ever consider that perhaps it doubles your damage *before* sneak attack is considered, or at some other point in the damage calculation rather than at the very end?
Therefore, it doubles your base damage ... and then sneak attack's multiplier is added.
I'm not sure what the multiplier is exactly on sneak attack or trick, but from my experience with damage formulas and games, a lot of times the solution for something not performing up to your standards lies in how the forumula is written and where exactly the multipliers come in.
Oh and... "better be fixed by the next bill period" ... dream on.

Are you currently a NIN/THF? Or did you mean THF/NIN? Because I'm pretty sure that Sneak Attack is reduced in terms of damage when its a sub.

                        whine some more please!

the descrition says it does double dmg.. does it say it does double sneak/trick dmg? no.. it's your own fault for assuming that's what the descrition meant.. and if you want to quit playing because of that, then i don't think anyone will miss your <sarcasm> strikingly positive attitude </sarcasm>

You might not be doing it right then, cause when I was using my 30 thf I would sneak/trick/fastblade or even Combo ( yes i'm weird i use h2h maxed on my thf).... and in kazhaam on like Smithy goblins i'd get like 150-200 damage.... which definitely makes me happy, its alot more damage than the regular attacks of like 25 or so with thfs lower attack power.... sneak/trick is what makes us thfs do more damage than wars or most other classes...

So therefore i'd say 200 damage is definitely more than what a warrior could ever hope to do... even with beserk and mighty strikes.

                            and..

Would you be mad if you spent 33 lvls as a ninja to get some skill only to find out it doesnt do what its suppose too?
                            No, I'd be happy I had a level 33 thf, and not a level 1 thf. ^^

i alpologise if this is already understood.. or if it is incorrect.. but this is how i understand fuidama..

fuidama is.. a stack of damage.. not a multiplier..

there are 3 seperate parts to it..

sneak attack damage + trick attack damage + viper bite damage

viper bite damage (as i understand it) is added to the stack.. not used to multiply the sneak/trick damage..

also.. please bear in mind that your fastblade or combo may outperform viper bite in damage.. and thus is will do more.. some theives tend to use sword or grapple.. way past 33

.. i do not doubt your skill as thief.. meerly understanding of fuidama..

                              i hope this is helpful^^

                              --edit--

thinking about the damage range, which i have seen with/without viper bite.. i would have to reasses my comments slightly... i did, however.. notice a significant jump in damage from fuidama when i reached level 35 and equipped two drone earrings.. i am slightly unsure, however.. i will search and edit post again when satisfied with an answer
