  • Question about Gobs & Bomb Toss

I was told a couple of things last night that I find to hard to believe. I was partied up in the Valkurm Dunes killing Hill Lizards & Gobs (was a great party, too). We were fighting an Ambusher and he was beginning to ready Bomb Toss so I started to run to get out of the splash area. After the fight I was asked why I did that I said I was trying to avoid being hit. They said, you need to circle the enemy to do that. That, in itself baffled me. One of the guys said that he did that and he didn't get hit. I went back and checked the log and sure enough he got hit same as everyone else. Then they said that by circling the gob you can make him get hit by his own bomb. Again that didn't seem to be true.

Can anyone confirm this? I will admit that I am new and certainly haven't battled as many gobs as most people have. If it does indeed work, it would seem to be a pretty serious bug as something like that could unfairly turn a battle in a party's favor (not that most don't mind). Or is this just another case of perpetuated misinformation?

Then a golbin throws a bomb one of two things can happen.
      1. He throws it and hits the whole party.
      2. He drops it, causes very little damage to you and lots to himself.

I'm wondering if hitting it at the right time while it's readying the bomb toss is what causes it to drop the bomb and severely hurt himself. Kind of like interrupting a magic cast.

From what i have seen (i'm a mage so maybe a fighter can be more accurate than me), for the goblin to get hit by his own bomb, the person holding the aggro has to go as close as possible to the goblin. Making him drop the bomb and get hit as much or even more than you or the rest of the PT (dmg you take could also depends on your resist to Fire, i think).

Again, this is from what i have seen as a Mage. A fighter class like a WAR or PLD could be more accurate on this manners, since they are the ones getting hit most of the time and the target of this bombs.

I think the only thing that might affect the bomb is shield bash maybe, I personally think it is random.

Certain weapon skills (flat blade, smash axe, brain shaker) can interrupt bomb tosses and probably some other specials, but I also think whether they kill themselves with it or not is random.

It works 80% of the time for me.

The one that holds the agro at the moment of Bomb Toss has to circle around the Gob, he will drop the bomb then and will hit himself more then he will hit the party.

It coulde be random as some said but I am always getting hit when I do not circle. When I use this trick he drops the bomb at least 80% of the time.

I heard doing any weapon skill during a certain point in the bomb toss delivery will make the Gob drop it. Although sheild bash, Flat blade, etc will cancel it altogether.

Interesting, maybe I'll try to do some testing when I get a chance. No doubt bomb tosses are what makes fighting goblins such a pain in the rear.

I was reading a thread on here that was discussing partying in Batallia, and basically noobs (which I admit I am still) were crying that goblins were too tough and the experienced players were saying that they're great xp and that's where I picked up the thing about WS interrupting them. Tried it last night and my smash axe worked beautifully, but 5 seconds later he just did it again and so it really didn't matter that I interrupted him once, in that case anyway. Having a way to influence the bomb dropping would seem to me to be a much better option, since the party seems to take less damge.

The above quote is true. Doing a weapon skill while the gob is preparing to toss the bomb will make him drop it. Requires good timing. Also using any weapon skill/spell that will stun the gob will make him cancel it all together.

What works best to prevent a bomb from going off is to use Weapon Bash or Shield bash. It's best to have 2 melee/tanks that can cast that skill when going against any mob that does suicide attacks. Works great against bees, gobs, and bombs. Weapon bash and Shield bash is very underused. Most ppl don't realize what's it good for. Whenever a mob is casting a spell/skill that takes a few seconds to perform, using Weapon or Shield Bash will stop it from happening. Of course timing is crucial. And it doesn't work all the time. That's why having 2 players that can cast Weapon/Shield Bash helps to make sure the mob gets stunned. Trust me you'll need good players that know how to use those skills when doing Genkei 1. Bombs and Exos suck with their 1 hit kill attacks >,,<
