  • Questions about lock picking

Ok from what I understand a thief can use a lockpick to open treasure chests that spawn in dungeons. A couple things Im not clear on though:

    1. Are lock picks one use items or can you use them as much as youd like?

    2. Can characters with thief as a Sub use lock picks?

    3. Whats the deal with living keys? Can any job use them like a thief would use the lockpick?

    Thanks in advance :-)

    1. once u attempt to open chests/coffers, whether successful or failed, keys r consumed.

    2. no, u have to be a main thf to use those tools.

    3. there r 3 different keys of this sort. the difference is that the thf tool is for opening the chests, and other 2 r for coffers. living key is one of them, and one has higher success rate than the other one, thus more expensive. (i forgot which one's which, i never used them.)

I think the other is Skeleton Key.

I wanted to know what the success rate was for picking locks?

Also, if someone could give an idea of the range of gil they get from chests.

Wondering if it would be profitable to farm chests with my lvl 40 thf.

Well, also just other uses in general, so again, the question is:

What is the success rate of using lock picks?

I guess i'll add the following questions too:

What effects success rate of picking locks (unless it is just random and no stat or lvl effects it)?

Also, what is the success rate of keys?

          Thank you

success rate depends on ur lvl; the higher the lvl, more success rate. this goes to all 3 of those tools/keys that only main thf can use to open up chests/coffers.

as far as the profit goes, it depends on which area's chests/coffers u r talking about. ones u can do around lvl 40 would give like 3500 gils at the most. (u r too low lvl for coffers yet.) coffers give upto 20000 gils or so.

remember, what u get from chests/coffers r randomly selected. u may get gils, items, or gem stones, whose value could differ greatly. also remember that the more ppl there is in ur party, the more "total" gils u'd get from them. if any member of a party aquires gils from chests/coffers, it's automaticlly spread to the wallet of each members equally.

honestly, opeing chests won't give u that much of profits. that something u can expect from coffers. still, there r usually lots of thf's in the highly-profitable area, so u have to win the race first.

Thank you for the info bside.

Do you have any insight as to what the success rate is for around a lvl 40 thf opening up chests (not coffers)?

I don't now if it's low, like 50%, or high, like above 80%.

              Thanks again

To me, this seems like a sure fire quick way to get your RSE equipment. Am I right? Can you still get magical patterns even if you pick the lock?

Also, how much do the various lockpicking devices usually cost?

One more- if you attempt to open a chest with a pick, and fail, does the chest respawn elsewhere, or stay where it is?

                Thx.

                  Vanguard,

sorry, i honestly don't know. i've never used one of those.

                  Gman,

correct, u may use it to open chests to obtain the patterns for rse quest.

the cost really depends on servers, so check AH. (they r crafted; may not be bought off of npc's.)

if u fail to open chests, the tool/key is consumed, but the chest stays where it is. failing to open coffers may also trigger traps, or the coffer may become mimic.
