check if friends are online

Is there a way to check if friends are online?

Something so that i dont have to log in all the way into the game just to see if they are currently on or not.

Like aim, but for the characters. Or done by Handle, or by account...

if you have your friend in your friend list you can see them from the POL viewer. If you friend set their status to online, not hidden, of course.

You can access the friendlist in POL menu. It's under navigator..

If only people had POL setup. I went through the trouble of setting up a profile and getting it all situated. Most people have their information hidden, which makes the app pretty useless beyond being an FFXI launchpad.

Yep, Playonline is viewed by most people as a necessary evil for playing FFXI. I've never seen any MMOG that takes so many steps to get logged in to a game. If they'd made it more straight forward, it would probably be used by folks, but as it is, everyone feels it is just a hassle that has to be overcome.:dead:

you can also check by clicking the top middle section of the POL viewer, at the main menu or further from it under other links. It will too you current statuses of friends and messages
