European import questions

Ok before you moan I know not many people will have the game yet to answer but I thought I’d get these questions up while I can get on the website.


Can you use a European credit card to pay? Can you use a European billing address? If not can you use a fake one or someone elses like with the Japanese version?

From what I've heard, all they're really interested in is the CC info... as long as that's valid, then you should have no problems registering whether its from EU, US, wherever.

However, you wont be able to use your real billing address, which is really odd to me as I live in the uk, and with every credit card transaction I've ever made online required a valid, matching billing address to be able to verify the information. Square Enix don't seem to care about this though, which is very risky, but they say you are able to use a fake address, should you be able to find one.

I do hope it changes, if this is true.

Hey im having the same problems but im getting my dad to use his US company address and hes just gona use his credit card...hope its not fraud still bah the whole thing is gettin complicated!!!

Nah, theres nothing to worry about. I Emailed Square a long time ago asking them if I could use an European CreditCard and they said yeah. If It was such a Big deal, they would have said something like you can use an European CreditCard but you must have a Valid US Address.
So I Think we got nothing to worry about, In the area of Paying for the game etc etc...

Originally, when I wrote PlayOnline to ask, they told me this (emphasis mine):

I completely understand your concerns but unfortunately it is true there is no option for you to enter a non North American address during registration or billing. The reason for this is because this is a North American release of FFXI online not a world wide release. If the game were being release in your area of course it would have options to enter an address from your area.

This seems to imply that you can’t use a non North American address for billing information. So there was much distress among us non-NA people.

Yesterday a US friend of mine got the game and I asked her to keep an eye on this for me. When registering for PlayOnline the only two options for country you get are “United States” and “Canada”. However, when asked for billing information the options for country seemed to include ever country across the globe (including “United Kingdom”). In fact, when my friend’s credit card wasn’t accepted and we tried mine, using my billing address (in the UK), it accepted it fine. It remains to be seen if it’ll actually draw payments from it, but I doubt they’ll reject payment based on that.

In short, the only place where you have to lie is when registering for PlayOnline. Just use a friend’s address or something there. Paying with your credit card from outside NA seems to be working fine.

Thanks for the Info Nyanya, i guess my mind is slightly at ease, then again from all the stuff ive been reading, missing cds, corrupt installations, crashing 10 min during game, kick ofs, shut downs arghhh i hope i dont get all this

My friend didn't specifically mention Italy, she only told me a couple of them. But the few she did name included a few my poor kitty head hadn't even heard of before. So I'd say it's a safe bet that Italy will be included too. <nods determinedly>

Also i am playing japanese ffxi for 1 year without problem with my italian cc but the first time i registered there wasn't the nation choise. They added it with NA version i think.
