  • Auction system, help please?

OK, I recieved a crash course on the Auction system(thanks lol), and I was able to buy some basic stuff by sort of clicking around.

I was wondering if there is a guide on the Auction system anywhere, such as how it works, menu translations, ect. I was unable to find one.

I am not sure how part of buying stuff works...but I think I need to first understand how selling stuff works to understand it:
OK I look at how much the item is sold for previously, then I offer an amount of money...then how does it work? On the couple things I bought I just offered an average price from the history list, saw some japanese at the bottom of my window, then found the items in my inventory. So my question is, how does this work? This is how I "guess" it works, but I don't know some parts, so please help me.

1: You put your item up for auction.
2: You set the price, then it goes into the auction system, so when other people search the item appears with an extra <1> next to its' name.

One thing I don't understand is how the system handles buying the item. If you offer 1000g for an item and only one person is selling it for 900g, what happens? Do you pay 1000g or does it just charge you 900g?

Things like this are what I am confused about...I don't know if I explained that very well, but it's very confusing.

Any help would be appreciated.

Im am slowly understanding the kanji for the Auction House so if you just look at the items being sold and look at the kanji you'll start seeing the correlation. As for how things are sold, you pay what you offer, this way the person selling it has a greater chance of making more money. It is an auction so it works sorta in that manner. If you dont offer enough it doesnt by stuff for you. =P So, when you offer money, you look at the message bar and the ammount you offered and some yellow kana appear. If at the end of the kana you see:
(forgive me the system I have does not have kana installed)
a ri ma se n de shi ta.
then you didn't have enough, any other message means you did have enough for one of the item being auction and it was purchased for the ammount you offered. The key word here is "masen" which makes the statment negative instead of positive.
I think the first three options of the AH without having a visual reference in front of me at work is:

    Buy
    Sell
Check on your items being auctioned(selling)

Then the second menu is, from what I remember is:
    Weapons
    Armor
    Spells
    Potions
    Food
... (ack cant remember the rest, I never look there since I can usually kill stuff for them)

Well, my brian isnt being very cooperative this morning so I'll look around for an AH guide, for I am sure there is on, or I'll make one and post it sometime. ^_^ That and I ran outta time and have an appointment at work to attend. Till laters.

http://xeubie.tripod.com/ff11jpn/index.html - Check the Menu Translation section.

First AH menu - Buy | Sell | Check Auctions
      Second - Weapons | Armor | Magic Scrolls | Medicine | Furniture | Materials | Miscellaneous

Here's how selling works, using 12 fire crystals as an example. If you check the bidding history, you'll see how much the last few sets sold for. 1200, 1200, 1190, 1189, 1100... The normal price is 1200, but some people sell for slightly less to sell theirs faster. Some people bid lower than the average, and get it at a lower price. So if you set your price at 1200, it may not sell immediately. If you set your price at 1190, you may get a better chance when people bid at 1200.

If someone is selling for 900, and you bid 1000 - they get the full 1000. If you make a mistake and put in 10,000, they get 10,000

Basically, there's an average price on items you can see in the bidding history. As a seller, you want it close to that number. Most people will bid the average price, so if you set it slightly lower, yours will sell sooner. As a buyer, you can bid under the average to try and get it at a lower price. Use the history as a guide to figure out how much to sell something. I got a lvl50 robe for 75k, when the last few bids were 80k. Right now I'm trying to sell a Life Belt for 100k, but the last few sold for 99.8-99.9k It's a little tricky, but the market changes.

http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/sho...&threadid=7997 - You can see an example of how much people have paid for that Life Belt, it actually used to be worth alot more. The price has been going down because more people have been selling. As the supply goes down and demand rises, you can bring the value up again. (Life Belts aren't easy to get) There are some items that have high supply and high demand such as some ores. There were 90+ Gold Ores in stock, yet they all sell for the same price - indicates high demand so the price wont fluctuate as much.
