  • Thinking About Buying This Game...

So i have a couple of question i hope you people can answer for me so lets get started:

1.I downloaded a Benchmark i did it both on Low and High Quality for low my score was about 2,000, whereas High was a little over 1,000. does this mean my laptop can run this game? i dont mind playing on low quality i just want to be able to play this game.

    2. where would be a good place to buy it? I see that Steam has this game for 9.99 for the Ultimate Edition. is that good for that price? what does it include?

    3. I was originally going to play FF14, but tried to see if it would run. it couldnt. so now ill try this as its the next best thing. One thing that i saw about FF14 was this Security Token keychain thing. does this game use that too? Do i need to purchase that before i can play this game?

    4. Since this would be my first Paid-MMO is it Beginner friend? Ive played my fair share of Free mmo and i just dont want to waste most of my time learning how to play than normally playing the game and thus wasting my money.

    5. Is there a way to download the game first before actually buying it? I just recently got internet and i guess its pretty fast, but i dont want to waste time that could be playing on time downloading the game (unless my time doesnt start till i actually get into the game?)

    Anything else would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

Ps: weapon-wise is there any class that can use a Lance or Scythe?

If you bough your computer some time within the last six years, it should run FFXI just fine.

It includes everything FFXI-related except for Abyssea. I'm personally waiting for the next collection pack so I could get Abyssea with it.

Technically it's not needed, but you're really only shooting yourself in the foot by not purchasing it.

I don't think I could say that it's very beginner-friendly at all. I'd most definitely do a bunch of homework before starting. FFXIclopedia tends to be a good place to start (I hope you have a good ad-blocker, though--I can't tolerate visiting that site when I'm not on my home computer because of it).

I think there's a free trial thingy somewhere. Last time I checked, it was in the upper-left-hand corner of the FINAL FANTASY XI Official Web Site .

Dragoon and Dark Knight, respectively--both are decently-respected DD (damage-dealing) melee classes, so long as they are played intelligently.

And one more thing: welcome to the boards! We highly approve of asking-questions here (so long as it isn't something basic that you could easily do the legwork for yourself--again, FFXIclopedia will nine times out of ten help you with that).

Actually even then it's probably ok to ask. Lord knows I did when I first joined these boards.

As for downloading the game, if I'm understanding you correctly you're looking to download the updates beforehand so you don't have to stare at the update screen for 8 hours before first logging in, in which case this might be relevant: All Final Fantasy XI Updates ('03 to 12.06.10) in One Torrent

Best advice for improving your quality of life in FFXI: find yourself a linkshell full of good people to hang out with. Makes all the difference in the world.

From what I've seen of it it's both one of the most difficult and most rewarding jobs out there. People who play Puppetmaster love it to death and do amazing things with it, but there's a lot to learn if you want to get into it. It's not really my cup of tea but it might very well be the job you fall in love with, I dunno.

Usually about 8 hours of updating after it's installed. Your mileage may vary.

I'm not sure about how the download purchase works, I just grabbed a physical copy back when I started up. Maybe someone else here knows.
