Hello all I'm new to the game and to the forums here, just wondering if anyone has some tips or advice for a newbie such as myself. Thanks in advance.

(1) Pick Taru.
(2) Pick Windurst.
(3) /dance 1, /dance 2, /dance 3 and /dance 4
(4) Bastok is not actually called "Bastok" but "Lastok." (because they never win Conquest)
(5) All Galka, no matter what they'd have you believe, are stupid.

Really, though, just take your time. No big rush here.

Check out FFXIclopedia.com, its a wikia site with lots of info. To get you started, look up information on the Tutorial NPCs in each city and Fields of Valor - that's your best place to start.

If you take an interest in doing missions, wait til about level 10 to start the first set.

That said, give each job a fair shake as they open up to you and you're bound to find something you'll like, there's no hurry to decide what your main job is at this point.

You're doomed to be ridiculed for being Bastok for life.

Its not really that bad, you'll just take a browbeating every time the weekly conquest tally comes on Sunday.

At least you have Cid.

You may want to post on a Ragnarok community forum to find a linkshell (fancy name for our guilds in FFXI) to join, lots of servers have groups that low and intermediate players will come to chat in and there are plenty of people out there that enjoy helping.
