BLU/RDM for ultimate recasting and spell spammage? Would Magic Attack bonus effect these things? Oh! Maybe BLU are like Avatars and that their TP goes up and their moves are more effective with more TP?
And the puppet master just let his pet die, didnt even recast. Christ, they were getting pwnd by those bossed and didnt do anything spectacular -.-. It hurts me to see them give the controller to ppl that play WoW. . . or lineage or something.
I probably could have done better than them as a RDM/WHM -.- AND taken down the stinky elvaan and the stupid taru.

The fact that the PuP doesn't have any weapons suggests to me it's not meant to do direct combat. The fact that it's seemingly only WS was combo also suggests that concept. Only other job I can think of that couldn't equip a weapon was mime and it's possible PUP is the FFXI version of that job. With the use of a different Puppet you might be able to replace any pt member with a PUP using the appropriate pet.

how can puppet masters animate their puppets irl...? with strings right? Maybe they'll get to use string intruments.

it was a demo. i think its too early to determine that pup doesnt have weapons. every job has a weapon that it designed to use. i think they dont want to give away too much with the pup right now. they are just letting us see it and watch it do simple things. they dont want to equip it with anything b/c maybe its something totally different? i mean, the pup didnt do anything at all but auto attack and move around. i think that says something right there. they're just letting us have our imaginations run wild for a bit to build the hype up.
I'm sticking to the Puppet itself being the PUP's weapon. Makes the most sense and easily explains why they have nothing equipped. It would also explain how you could have different Puppets out for different situations. Think about it, WHM pulls to much hate and gets taken down, PUP equips a healer type Puppet. Probably some sort of brief penalty, as in no actions after changing equip like ballista. This could simulate building or animating the puppet. Tank get tore to shreds? Change equips to the Tank puppet. etc.

PuP Level 1 job ability: Devil's Pact-You sell your soul to Satan in order to bring life to the inanimate.
The puppeteer job just leaves a lot to the imagination. It could conceivably do just about anything. (Could even be the new tanking class they've been talking about.) Like Omni said, its just the first demo shown to introduce the job. We'll probably learn a little more in the next month. I doubt we'll know too much before ToAU is released though.

BLU could function as a tank, it's a melee-oriented job, but obviously has mage. It's in the grey area between RDM and DRK, i suppose, with the moves being more for mass pt helping. Bomb toss, maybe some sort of Curing Wind ability. . .
And the fact that the system is related to the way FF9 worked inplies to me that you can tailor make a BLU to fit the job. Debuffer/Support if no RDM is present, Healer/Support if lack of WHMs, then have them slap on a WHM sub, or have them slap on WAR/NIN/DRK or w/e and tailor-make them to be DDs.
I can imagine Turban-Burns where you have an entire pt of BLU being the different roles. . . And making themselves comform to that and actually pulling things off. BLU/NIN tanking, BLU/WHMs to support, BLU/WARs doing DD. . .

I watched the 3rd one at the bottom of the site. Got to see the mage do Dimensional Death and Bomb Toss. Even AoE spider web! So, the advantages of having a trained Blue Mage in a PT seemingly look fun :D
