  • Screenshot Collection. How to upload?

I'm not very skilled with FTP servers and never really knew how to uplaod anything to them. So I was wondering if anyone could let me know? Do I need some special program, or can I do it straight from the browser?

This has to do with the ffxionline free FTP server by the way.

    Thanks

If you have the address and password you can use FTP programs, which you can find with a search. You might be familiar with certain web developement programs such as Dreamweaver that includes an FTP transfer program for uploading your work onto the web.

    http://www.smartftp.com/ Supposedly freeware.
http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/ Dreamweaver is one of my favorites.

You'll probably have to resort to unscrupulous methods to obtain Dreamweaver. >_>

In FTP, you will most likely encounter the following rights:
      Read
      Write
      Create Directory
      Delete

Most servers will only give you Read access. Some will give you Write access as well. Few will give you the ability to Create Directories, and almost none will/should give you Delete access, unless it is restricted to a space in the server reserved for you.

IIRC, Write is not available from the browser, though Read is. If so, you can get any number of FTP clients to interact with existing servers, and if you want to host your own server, you can get an FTP server.

      Clients:
      Cute FTP
      WSFTP
      FileZilla

      Servers:
      WarFTP
      FileZilla
      Serv-U

If you like a command line interface, you can go to Start->Run, type in "cmd.exe", then type in "ftp ftp.servername.com" to get to a login. If you're downloading binary files (as opposed to ASCII text files), you can type "bin" to switch to binary mode. To change the save directory for your download, you can type "lcd directoryname". To change directories on the server, type "cd directoryname", and to download a file, type "get filename". Use "dir" or "ls" to show the contents of the directory you're in. Of course, this is a lot of work, and I only do it when 1) I'm feeling nostalgic, or 2) I'm too lazy to install one of the above clients.
