there was actually an ffxi or maybe just a general ff con sometime in japan

i dunno where or when but it had mostly people cosplaying ffxi characters

i wish i had a pic :/ it was a guy in a tonberry outfit with someone wearing i. m. armor in the background which was very well done
observe the splendor of ping pong balls!

I don't know, I've seen some pretty impressive American Cosplay. The last con I went to there was a guy dressed in complete BRD AF, it was the most awsome thing ever.

As far as banning, We have some things in the works to make sure those who get banned will never be able to return to these forums, in anyform.
Appartently an IP ban really keeps them out. =\

I would never really do somthing like that myself since I dont really like to dress up, but I still like to see what costumes people manage to make. The Locke one looks cool.

/em ties his feet behind his butt and puts shoes on his knees and cosplays as a Tarutaru. :spin:

That'd be kinda freaky...unless they got their kids to do it, I'd never wanna see someone cosplay as a tartaru.

                          Awesome costumes ^^

Btw, tarutaru's are hard to cosplay as unless you're like a child or a midget. >_>

Which reminds me... In Otakon 2004 (Yay, go me Nerdy {power}!) I saw this dude in a Cardboard DRG AF holding a San 'd Oria flag going OMFG SAN' D ROXXOR J00R BOXXOR.

Then, sadly enough, I went up to his face and go: "OMFG TEH BASTOK > YUO!!111!1!1"

                          xD

Those are fantastic costumes. The one of Kum'lanut (I think that's him) in his ZM8 battle armor is very impressive - someone must know how to mold plastic or something...

I think the real difference between JP and NA cosplaying is, as has been already mentioned, the level of effort and detail people put into it here. To a lot of NA people 'cosplay' denotes wearing a dun robe and putting on Mr. Spock ears while speaking in a faux-Elizabethian accent.

However, the Japanese do it full out; but that's in their nature. If you want to be into rap and hip-hop in Japan you don't just buy some CDs and turn your Yankees hat sideways, you go full out with the Sean Jean gear and get 20 pairs of Timberlands and Lugz. If you want to be into photography at racetracks, you buy $15000 USD of camera equipment, even if you're only doing it for a hobby. If you want to cosplay, you do it right and use quality materials and go down to every last little nuance to make it right.

I'm most impressed with the people who actually put together their own armor, as that is not easy by any streach of the imagination. The guy at tomfin10's link with full Gallant AF gear looks pretty damn good (though I'm sure it's just plastic and not real metal) - but why is a Paladin wearing a Valkyrie's Mask?

PS: And against my better judgement here's a statement to all you flamers who are just too cool to appreciate the time and effort these artists put into their cosplay fun:
Does sitting in your basement at your computer 24/7 sucking down chee-tos and Mr. Pibb give you any right to criticize the lives of others? Just think about that for a little bit.
