Seriously must have sucked, all the work put into the fight then wasted so fast - -. My LS also got it to about 50% earlier today, died from Spike Flail also. Though you can recover if you get your BLMs or RDMs up fast and ES + Sleep~. Just a warning, these HNMs regen like crazy sleept and wake up fast. =/
We had the same tank throughout the whole time pretty much after we got on our feet, so once he was taken out the other tanks were not ready, and 2 of the others were standing near him during Spike Fail =(. Anyway first real attempt was great, if we have the same showup at Jorm we could take it down a lot easier, cause the only problem is the adds, he is phyiscally easier.
We started the fight with 24 people only, at the end had like 32. The others that came were 2 more WHM and just more dmg to take out adds so once the main alliance was down we couldnt get back on our feet fast enough.
Jormungand so is not easier lol. Paralyzga is a hell of alot harder to deal with then virus, and the fact that its usually double ice weather there makes his spells and WS's a shit load stronger. Guess you'll see for your self though.
The strat you guys use from what I see gives more TP and ours, Tiamat did his wing attack on us 3-4 times max. Its about giving TP to be honest the more TP you give him the more you fuck yourself over, however if you have enough people to deal with TP attacks then your fine, my first Tiamat attempt with a JP LS i used to be in was started with 16 people, got it down to 60% with 16 then some more logged in, ended with 22 and wiped at 5%.
Stan, we kill Tiamat/Jorm with no ranger in alliance at all All physical damage comes from /thf melee doing ws, and only other damage is from smn and blm. We probably give them the least amount of tp possible lol.
By the way, not sure if you've actually fought Jormungand or not, but from our LS's experience he is definitely harder, and not just with adds. Killing Tiamat seemed fairly easy by comparison, barely even had any deaths.

Quazar is in my LS, lol he tells me everything you guys do, personally the reason I think Jorm is easier is cause he does less phyical dmg but I trusted what you guys said to begin with and said it. Quazar said you guys told him that Jorm was easier. Anyway dont want to start a flame war =p Gonna try Tiamat again next re-pop. Cya later :spin:
Also keep in mind Tiamat's Firaga III is easily stunable, where as Jormungand's Blizzaga III is instant. I've fought Jormungand a few times now, never actually fought Tiamat but have watched other LS' fight it and I would have to agree overall Jormungand appears to be the hardest fight... first being that getting to Tiamat takes like 5 minutes max, getting to Jormungand is extremely long trying to get 30~ people through that zone with S/I and avoiding True Sight mobs (we usually just fight through)
Jormungand also takes off and touches down more frequently than Tiamat so you have a lot of AoE attacks to deal with.
Also IMO the most difficult thing about these dragons is being able to deal with the adds first and foremost, anyone who's ever attempted Jormungand can attest to how painfully annoying the bombs and ele's are before you learn how to properly deal with them.
If you claim you got Tiamat down to 60% with 16 people then wow, and got it down to 5% with 22 then double wow... must have great strategy / execution / teamwork to pull that off.
Sorry about your bad luck both Stan and JKBlue, better luck next time
Fighting Tiamat and using SMN for dmg its pretty much like holding Fafnir. I won't disclose the strat completely but what we did use the strat that the JP LS used that I was in and edited the way its tanked a little which gives us more hate control cause of the WHM cure bombing. Tiamat fighting 100 to 15%ish I would have to say is like fighting Nidhogg with adds so its not really that hard, the JP LS used a THF to train adds away but when we did it we had MNKs to own the Corses so it was not much of a problem. Good luck on Vrtra Lunarians ^^
