1. Fight other players, team to score most points win.
2. You have an option to Quarry when in ballista, it'll give you items. That boost is one of them.
3. Yes
4. No
5. I don't think there is a specific lv...as long as you get your Ballista license you can join any match.
6. Passholow, Meriph, Jugner

That one is called "Giants Drink". I got ir regularly today, and had my hp boosted to around 2500 froma normal 1269. xD Needless to say, the poor people hitting me wondered how in gods name I was still standing.
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.
The quest for getting the Ballista license is such a pain in the ass, especially when you don't have an Airship pass and have to Chocobo the whole thing..orz
It's been so long though, I can't really remember what you do.
But basically you have to go to each nation and find the right NPC and eventually you get the pass. :/
Someone already responded, but I'll word it differently-
1. and 2.
In Ballista the object is to defeat players to get the chance to earn points. This is done by throwing Pentas into the Rooks. You can get Pentas and other ballista items (including the hp/mp boosts, potions, ethers, prism powders, sneak oils and a bunch of others) by typing /quarry. Your character will kneel down and either obtain and item to help in combat, a Penta, or nothing. You can only hold a certain amount of items though, so you choose weither to use the item, drop it, or (if you can) store it.
I myself have done 3 ballista 60 matches, and I have to say the hp up is awesome. Although the mp up would be better, I was still able to survive much, much longer when attacked. Also, when attacked you can type in /sprint to speed up for an escape (but bind, stun, sleep ect will stop you ;; )
3. Yes.
4. No, not in ballista, however you are sent back to the beginning point, which is usually far away from the battles (near the rook usually).
5. You don’t have to be a certain level to join them, however your level will be capped depending on which one you join. It wouldn’t be wise for a level 50 to join a level 60 ballista, but it is possible. There is level caps at 30, 40, 50 and 60, and then there is one with no level caps (level 75's join in this one I think).
6. The matches are held in Jugner Forest, Pashow Marshlands, and Meriphataud Mountains. You can find out what times the matches are held from the Ballista Heralds.
