Uh, no, when you got about 3 or 4 different answers to what it means it's kinda hard to tell which if any are true. I just made a statement what that symbol means in Japan.

It is called "Trial Adventurer" status. I don't know what it means in the EN version, but in the JP version it means the user is connected from a net cafe or similar public terminal where the character you see is not necessarily the same person in real life from day to day since anyone is free to use that character. Sort of like a "guest account" to try out FFXI with.Comment
