  • PS2 Network Adapter Woe

Details are elsewhere set forth. Some thread that is also about Network Adapters.

No point in really going into it here, suffice to say I need a new one. If I manage to find one, will my entire HDD have to be reinitialized to 'mate' with this new Adapter, or will it be good to go w/ just plugging it into the new one? I can't quite recall if the DNAs are tied to the adapter or the PS2, if switching them will make me have to wipe the HDD, I'm seriously considering just going for the PC version or something.

    Re: PS2 Network Adapter Woe

The only thing that locks to a specific PS2 is software on the HDD that is bootable directly from the Browser or PSBBN. In North America, that only applies to PlayOnline Viewer. I have two PS2s and two Network Adapters (one each, Japanese and North American), and nothing grumbles if I swap the Network Adapters. The HDDs even work between systems as long as I'm not needing to boot regionally locked software from the interface, meaning I could install Japanese games with that function, and then see their HDD Utility Disc icons instead of their PSBBN icons when I put the HDD back in my US PS2.

DNAS may lock your FFXI install to your PS2 under some conditions, but that's fixed by a reformat. It doesn't seem to be a common occurrence, since thee could ship the HDDs with that softare preinstalled and locked to a different PS2. A reinstall of PlayOnline Viewer should be your only problem if you switch systems. Nothing will happen if you switch Network Adapters.
