i just started and honestly this is my first mmorpg (just got broadband and played cs for a while but i wanted a rpg) so like what should i do first just level up or what? thanks

oh i ono if this even matters but my in game name is neotheone and i am on the fairy server

well i suggest you fight to level 7 and do your first mission. Don't forget to get a Signet from one of the gate guards (TK, IM, WW npcs)

My advice is to explore. The more you progress, the more tempting it will be for you to get caught up in the neverending grind of leveling and farming and ultimately let your goals dominate your experience. So before you even get a taste of that, I suggest you explore your home town, talk to some NPCs, maybe do a few simple in-town quests and try to get a feel for the world that's been set in front of you.

Yes! Explore! It's a HUGE world. If you started in windurst, you could probably spend a few days just running around the city, that place is so huge.

Oh, and save the items you get. You can use many of them for quests or selling for good money. If you started in Bastok, I'd suggest fighting bees if you can help it. Beehive chips sell for good money. In windurst crawlers and bees are good for money, silk thread is expensive too. In san d'oria, fungars are pretty good, dark crystals sell well.

And make sure you sort your inventory every now and then too. If you go to the item menu and press + it will switch your "cursor" to the sort part of the menu. Then just select the auto sort, and it'll sort your inventory and stack any items that can be stacked for you. I lost a lot of items when I first played the game because I didn't know how to sort.

And instead of using "+", you can also use the mouse. I personally never use the mouse for this game any more, you can do everything through the keyboard.

While adventuring and exploring is great fun as a new player, my advice is, start earning money early and often.

As Jei already pointed out, research is the key. Start learning more about your nation and it's surrounding areas. Simple crystal farming with signet up if a great way to make money as you level, but as your levels increase, so should your means in the way you make gil. Find out what mobs drop what in your area, and start targeting them for profit.

As for a starting job, it doesn't get better than monk. It's a pretty simple, relatively cheap job to play, and it should give a lot of perspective of how the game is played, without giving you too much responsibilites in the group setting.

monk is good. another possibility for a starting job is warrior, because almost every melee job in the game uses it for a subjob.
if you would prefer to be a mage, then i suggest starting with either red mage or black mage, just to get a feel for the game. they are both easier to solo than white mage, and they both find parties pretty easy, once you reach those levels.

Easy. If you plan to level EVERYJOB you will never reach a lvl 40 before the next year. Try to focus on 3, 4 jobs and reach the top with them. Because "leveling" means "money" and "money" means "farm like hell", so take it easy.

Make sure you try a galka-burger while you're at it. They're out of this world.
