So how much is a chocobo and where do you get it ?

Not sure how much and you can get one in the main citys. You need a chocobo license though, i heard it takes like up to 5 hours of real life to to complete it. Do a search on it, you should find it.

You get the Chocobo licence from stable in Upper Jeuno once you're level 20. You have to feed a chocobo several pieces of gausebit grass, each on a different Vana'diel day, about 1 earth hour. They don't have to be consecutive days and you can leave inbetween feedings.
Once you have you're licence you can hire one from any of the stables in Windurst, Bastok, San d'Oria, Jeuno, Norg, Kazham or Raboa or from the 3 main teleport crags.
The cost of the chocobo depends on how many people are currently hiring one, the 3 starting cities are cheap, usually 1-200 gil. Jeuno can be more expencive, sometimes upto or over 2000 gil, the crags are generally the most expencive with Mea sometimes topping 3000 gil.
