Converting your NA FFXI into the Japanese FFXI

is that where you installed FFXI NA version? you add a string value called 0001 with the string value of the dir you installed FFXI in originally

that is unless youre installing 2 versions of FFXI

but the default is something like
C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\Final Fantasy XI or whatever. You'd have to check.

quick question, do all the ingame menus get turned into japanese, or just the pol ones?

Everything, basically, you'll have the japanese version.
Which is extremely painful if you are a BRD, since 99% of the songs are kanji, and I'm having a real hard time translating them

No.. i got a register key problem
i installed my english version FF & POL in C:program file and when i installed the Japanese version POL i renamed to JPlayOnline
i tried to change HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\USPlayOnline\InstallFolder to 0001 REG_SZ "C:\JPlayOnline\SQUARE\Final Fantasy XI"

I have some question about the use of the IME ^^:
1st) Being bilingual I want to talk in romanji and kana at the same time, which is done with 2 Keyboardlayouts, easy.
To switch between them I use ALT+SHIFT.
The shortcut to change between hiragana and katakana is ALT+Capslock.

But now I noticed in game, I sometimes seem to hit an unfortunate shortcut which I don't know about... ; ;
After pressing that ALT+Capslock suddenly changes into the kana switch hotkey and I can only write in katakana >.<
I can switch to hiragana, but it won't display on the chatbar and can't switch back to romanji at all.

Can anyone help me with this ?

2nd) How do I make tiny kana versions ?
I don't know that and thus being unable to macro DIA (;?L„t?¼)

3rd) How do I access all the symbols & characters assigned to a specific keys (there are up to 4) ?

If you sit in the irc channel long enough, the bot will announce what to type to get the file downloaded. You didn't wait long enough.

It was something like /ctcp Serite_ POL!

The file is like 360MB and took me around five hours to download.

ok i downloaded the jp pol cd installed... in the registry i just had to add a string for FFXI and since i wanted to be able to use na and jp i just copied my FFXI folder and added a string to point to the right place...

now it's doing what in the screenshot i just took... maybe when it's done i can play...

1. I know about 3 shortcuts. CTRL+Caps changes to hiragana input, ALT+Caps to katakana and SHIFT+Caps to direct input. If this isn't work you can just type everything in one of the 3 inputs and hit F6 for hiragana, F7 for katakana, F9 for this ‚—‚‰‚„‚…?@‚”‚…‚˜‚”?@‚”‚ˆ‚‰‚Ž‚‡ (well, its wide in FFXI ) and F10 for direct input. This will convert the (green) text to any of the above.

2. You type the one character you want to make small, hit space and choose its tiny version from the list. Im not sure if theres any other way to do this. Im not sure if theres any other way to do this. ;_;

if you share one version of FFXI between the two POL versions, then every time you switch, the game will try to verify every FFXI file. this process takes maybe half an hour? i dunno, i've never timed it... it's sorta ‚Ђǂ¢ but i can deal with it. i've gotten everything working thanks to the directions posted here and ghostraven's xdcc, but it truly is difficult dealing with all the kanji.

it will definitely take some effort getting used to, and i'm wondering if any of the importers who don't (or didn't, before importing) speak japanese have any tips or links to sites with romaji<->kanji conversions, other than the excellent JA/job translation posted elsewhere on this forum. i do know some japanese, but definitely not enough at this point to be able to play JP FFXI without difficulty.

one other problem i do have is using the tab menu with JP input. i've tried typing in ‚¨‚͂悤 and pressing tab and it doesn't work, or typing ‚¨‚͂悤, enter, and then tab, also doesn't work. i'd much appreciate any help in this matter!

Got it all working including the switch between the different inputmethodes.

But i can't see the hiragana/katakana input it will show only ? for ervery character i enter.... What am i doing wrong?

And yes the character setting is Japanese IME.

Regional Control - Advanced - and change language for non-unicode programs to Japanese...




A question for the others - how did you get the config file to edit the japanese version instead of the US version? I'd rather not dig through the registry and do it by hand if possible..
