  • why skillchain does zero damage?

    Hi,
does anyone know how it is possible for a skillchain to do zero damage??? in the message screen it did say the skillchain was performed just zero damage was the result. Is it because we did not time it right? is it because the MOB resists the elemental type?

    Probably wrong elemental skill chain.

Possibly one of the ws didn't hit. It could have missed and the renkai never have even connected. Elemental has a deal with it too. Or the mob could have been very high. Like in my case, it is hard to do a lot of damage on Robber Crabs in Kuftal tunnel at lvls around 54. Even dispel with dispel. It is all a matter of magic bursts for the long run there.
Till i think of a better sig...

The damage the Skillchain does is dependant on the amount of damage the second Weapon Skill does, as well.

Did you do zero damage on a crab by any chance?

to make this clearer, let's suppose ur skillchain was Red Lotus Blade->Combo, thus ends w/ Fusion. and for the sake of making this an example, let's suppose that Combo did land, but did zero damage (which is possible, btw), due to the def up that the mob used. now, because the Combo resulted in zero damage, the damage of Fusion is also zero.

note that even though skillchain can result in a zero damage, it's different from missing. as long as the skills chained, magic burst can come in after that, and ws can chain after that. if this was a miss, no magic bursts, nothing chains after.

if the WS that finished that renkei indeed did some damage, but the skillchain damage got zero, that's very rare. if it was 1 damage, easily possible. but personally, i've never seen zero damage skillchains, when WS did some damage.

btw, if the timing wasn't right, it won't chain, and it won't show up in the log window. the fact that u saw this in the log window means that the timing was alright.

              thanks for the fast responses,
I understand what is going on now. Most likely the WS did zero damage. We were fighting greater pugils in qufim at the time. They might have def up, not sure. I guess the most important thing is the we were doing the weapon skill chain correctly. Thanks.

on the note of skillchains in your log, i used to have my chat filters set up some kick ass way where i had almost no log spam and was able to view the name of the skill chain and its damage. since then ive had to do a few reinstalls, now i can no longer figure out which filters i had on/off.

so my question is, Does anyone know a great set of on/off filters that lets you view this and filters out virtually most the spamyou could get in battle?

0 damage renkeis do occur pretty often in the lower levels, mainly if hunting an IT+ and ending on a one-handed WS, with an element the critter is not weak against (ie Fusion on Pugils).

Personally, I don't think skillchains are even worth doing at low levels unless you have a mage that can MB in your PT.

From what I've seen, most skillchains in parties all the way to Quifim seem to do single-digit or low double-digit damage...not worth saving your TP for IMHO, unless you have a mage that can magic burst it.
