I've been trying to customize my PlayOnline Viewer and FFXI since i got it, just to make it feel a bit more like home. Now, my question is if someone knows how to customize the wallpaper? Such as a program to do it for you or the proper naming of files?
Here's what I've figured out about customizing FFXI (from this forum and my messing around):
Sounds: you need to have a wav->bgw converter, found Here
For FFXI, you simply name the file music(###).bgw. The program lists the music files included with the normal game so you have an idea of which music files are played when. The other files you'd have to root around and find out what exactly they do, probably using the winamp bgw plugin Here. Just listen to what each is and then change it how you want =)
The music files can be found at C:\Programs\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FFXI\sound(or sound2)\win\music\data. Modify to your heart's content.
For the PlayOnline Viewer, it's a bit different. It uses the same bgw format so you still need the wav->bgw converter. You can name these however you want, but you have to watch the numbers. If you look at C:\Programs\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer\viewer\data\system\data you'll see the original music that was included, like Fuwafuwa_(by_Noriko_Matsueda).115.bgw. That shows ya the file format, simply call your file something like "Can_You_Keep_A_Secret_(by_Utada_Hikaru)" then check what the highest number is for your bgw files(should be 126). so your new file will be "Can_You_Keep_A_Secret_(by_Utada_Hikaru).127.bgw". Increment the number for every file after that you add ^^ realize they may add new songs in the future which may mess with that.
Here's an Example
As for wallpapers for the playonline viewer, if you don't care about making it look nice, you can dump any .png file into the C:\Programs\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer\usr\(home##)\download\wallpaper folder. If you have multiple home files and you don't know which is yours, download a wallpaper and then look in each wallpaper folder for the newest file.
The unfortunate part of just dumping it in is the displayed names are horrible. Where most of the files will be listed as "Final Fantasy XI picture1" with the game icon listed beside it, yours will read "JA@Q!J!FAS" with nothing beside it.
If you want to make it look slightly nicer, do this:
the first 10 characters seem to denote it as a picture file and show what game its from. here's the combinations:
NVN413ENNW = Jongholow icon
NVN3BOZNNH = FFXI icon
NVN45VNK1* = add one of the following letters/numbers to get the corresponding icon
F,R = Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
W,S,X,0 = Final Fantasy X-2
H,V = PlayOnline file
4,N,3 = Final Fantasy X
2,Y,1,2 = Final Fantasy Tactics-Advanced
5,Q=I'm not sure of this icon T.T i must not be prowessed.
Example of icons
POL wallpaper
So you could name your file NVN45VNK1Fxxxx.png for a crystal chronicles file that would just say "B..." or what have you. The actual displayed naming system is really weird and i haven't figured it out. Which brings me to my question.
Does anyone know of a program to fix these files to make them formatted for PlayOnline? Or the naming method to make some intelligible sentances in it? That's basically all that's needed now to make wallpapers easily readable and accessible for the POV.
(on a side note, i tried to use the postcard system to figure out the naming system too, didn't work out too well. if noone knows a way, any suggestions? ^^)
