I was wondering how powerlevelling works in this game, as in will it be easy for you to help your friends catch up to you, or level a friend's sub job easily by having a high or higher level character, and also what classes are the best at doing this. Also, what kind of target mobs will you want to kill in order to powerlevel a friend.

any job with MP and cure spell can power level.
you let your friend fight and you heal without grouping with him. that's all. There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,

the only form of power level is to provide healing.
you need mage job to do that. use whm as support job for example. just make sure you have enough healing power to keep your low level friend aliveThere are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,

hmm im level 70 right now i can power level my friends all the way to 30 easily...
I think for level 1-15 power level is really fast
but from 15 on it takes a long long time for a single person to kill tough enemies : / PT sould be faster....
I prefer playing low level jobs with friends more than PL them thoThere are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,

While we're on this topic, i figure since you say the ONLY way to powerlevel is outside of PT healing them while they solo. This must mean there is some sort of level cap for people to group? like your level 70 red mage cant group with a level 10 and solo mobs and get them experience? This is how it is done mostly in daoc, a high level wizard or class similar would solo even level mobs at a high speed with the low level in group, and they'd level up fast. This is not possible in FFXI? Thanks in advance for the information.

umm no. : ( you can't do that.
- edit -
in ff xi, exp is calculated by the level differences between player and the enemy.
a level 1 killing level 1 monster, equal level, will get 50-75 exp
a level 50 killing level 50 monster, also equal level, will get 50-75 exp too. There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,

Actually you can power lvl a character easily to 30 quite quickly with several LOOOOONG days work. I did this with my RL friend who recently imported powerlvling him with my WHM(55 at the time).
Jei's right. You can cure a person while they are attacking a monster and even if the monster comes after you (which they probably will) and hit you, there person being PL'd will still get the full ammount of exp as long as the higher lvl person doesn't actually attack the monster by either spell or weapons.
Heres what I did when my friend started (sandoria)
(1-13) Have the person you're PLin solo kill monsters a lvl higher than them or even lvl. Hards could take alittle more time but easily duable cause heals. Just becareful of the high damager monsters like orc grapplers.. If they crit it could possible kill ther person being pl'd. No worries cause raise
(13-20) Valkurm Dunes.. you can solo pl your friend but the kills will be slow. It will go alot faster if the lower lvl gets into a pt and You as the Higher lvl power lvl the whole group. As a group they can easily take tote's or totetote's and get anywhere from 130 to 200 (200+ if chains) without ANY DOWNTIME WHAT SO EVER. You will probably get the hate from a cure and the monster will hardly attack any ppl from PT and stay on you making it easier since at such a high lvl the monster can't hit you.
(20-26) Qufim is good.. accessable from port jeuno. Basically same thing as 13-20. Have them get into pt and chain worms/clippers of the such. These lvls for some reason seem to go by faster than 13-20 cause you can easily chain stuff. Just beware this is a prime place to lvl up at these lvls so it will probably be crowded and laggy depending on the time.
(26-32) After a good hr or 2 getting the 3 keys for the kazham pass I took my friend to the outside area of Kazham (forgot what its called ) Got him a group.. (japanies or american they'll join quickly if they know someone is PLing them) and kill goblin smithies and stuff. This can probably hit you more often if your a whm like myself and if your not careful even you can die.. Stone skin really helps.
My friend is currently lvl 32 . I kinda wish I was a RDM instead, the countless times I had to regen my mp when i could have used refresh. IMO they are the better Power leveler.
Welp, this is what I did. Power leveling is possible on ffxi but you can't gain lvls just like that and if the person doing the Power leveling isn't EXTREMLY patient, it just won't work.
---EDIT---
By the way, i forgot to mention... You CAN NOT be grouped with the lower lvl personMyriam *DEACTIVATED* [Rank 5](Import)

I knew sooner or later this would happen, the leeches that make people power level them. They want all the power, items, spells, and money, but they don't want to do any work for it, they just want everything handed to them on a silver platter.
I've played other MMORPG's where characters have "legends" where you can check the date that the character was created, and I would be so shocked at the number of people who had created a character just 9-10 days ago and were already at the level cap.
I don't mind the form of power leveling where a group of people go out and hunt all the time, but when it's just one person leeching off another to quickly gain levels, that disgusts me.
I just don't see the point in it, racing to get to the finish line? Sorry but there is no finish line to race towards.<:3_)~

BALGAS--
I truely understand how you feel about the Power leveling situation Balgas and I really don't like going into a party where a lvl 20 warrior says "whats chohatsu?" or taunt. But this person is a real life friend and I don't know any person who learned the basic ways of this game faster than him.
Actually I never power level ppl if they ask but this is a special case cause it feels a lot better playing and party'in with someone you know in real life than it does someone across the country or world.
SMILER73--
Unless you have a very high lvl friend there is no chance of you getting power level'd. At your lvl sinc your windhurst you need to go to the outside area of mhuara and party untill lvl 20. Soloing takes to long after lvl 13 unless you are bstMyriam *DEACTIVATED* [Rank 5](Import)

Thanks for the help guys, came up with another question or two.
First, how does the armor/weapon system work? In DAOC, there was a limit as to how high a level / damage weapon you could use. If you used a higher level weapon, it wouldn't do more damage than an even level weapon, and decayed faster than an even level one. As far as FFXI goes, is it much like that with AF limits (armor factor, pretty much a defense rating), or is it like everquest where you can twink the sh*t out of your characters with end game equipment at level 1 if you wanted.
Also, since you say theres no way to powerlevel someone grouped, that must mean the grouping code is very strict, or is that not the case? Or jay were you just thinking it's hardly powerlevelling for a level 70 to solo level 70s with the say level 5 in group because it takes so long, or something like that to kill a level 70 monster?
Thanks in advance

c'mon Balgas ^^ there's situation where PL is appropriate and time that it isn't.
= scenario 1 =
my LS friend who had been my very nice friend for couple months got killed and ask for raise. I travel to him, raise him and I got some free time so I hang around and provide a little PL until he finds a group
= scenario 2 =
a new guy just got into my LS for the first day and keep yelling
"CAN SOMEONE PL ME????" and ask every posible question from how to walk to how to shoot crap.
are you going to PL him?
btw, the guy in scenario 1 and 2 are both real
the guy in 2 however... at the end we kicked him out of our LS and his last word was
"DAMNIT THIS CRAPPY SERVER IM GOING TO RAGNAROK BYE"There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence
