  • Pc controls, along with mouse?

I just thought I would start a topic, this is a question I have been pondering for a while now and I am sure someone else out there is wondering the same thing I am.

I know the PC and the PS 2 verson share the same keyboard hot keys, correct? I also know that the the keys are not remapable.

The question I am really wondering, is what use is the mouse in the PC version? Do you actually have a cursor that you move around the screen and target things, or do you just use the function keys to Target nearest mob, target nearest player, target nearest item, ect?

I have only gotten to play so far on the PS2, and I hear people complaining some about the PC control scheme, but to be honest, in most mmo's I have played, you generally ended up shunning your mouse anyway after you reached a certan level of play, just because f8 was a lot easier to press then to try to click a target who was surrounded by your party members?

Thanks for any answers anyone can give

The mouse.. well, I use it mainly just for running and clicking on enemies that I'm too lazy to hit F8 for. I also use it for menus, but I'm starting to use the keyboard more and more. In all actuallity, I'd prolly only use the keyboard if I wasn't on a laptop... but no NumPad=hard to navigate quickly.

Do you think you could tell me how the mouse actually works? Like if you move the mouse around, is it like having mouse look? Or do you move the mouse and it moves your cursor?

I have noticed what your saying about the num pad being hard to work with

      Thanks again!

mouse control for the pc version

I was wondering, since pc gamepads are usable in the final fantasy 11 game, does that mean that pc gamepads with dual analogs will be able to play the game like someone using a dual shock controller on the PS2? In otherwords, does the analog feature work for the pc version? I have a nostromo dual analog game pad and I really want to use it for the pc game. I hated using the keyboard for games like Dark Age of Camelot.

The mouse moves the camera and your character. Left click quickly and it's just a normal click, hold it down and move the cursor around to move your character. Same with right click.. click quickly, and it erases whatever is in the chat box, or goes backwards through the menus. Hold it, and you move the camera around. About the numpad... it's not actually hard to use on a regular keyboard. However, I use a laptop, so I have to hold down the "Fn" key and press regular letters to access the numpad (ex: Fn+K is 2 on the numpad). So it's annoying to use... but I got used to it. It'll be easier for all you regular keyboard users

Thanks a ton for answering my questions! You've been a great help.

Oh and Ahmad, as for your question, I would not doubt that you could use your PC analog controler. After all, all the people who hook up there PS 2 controlers to the PC are doing it through USB, so I am sure it would work with just about any controler.

            Thanks again Shuketsu!

I don't even touch my mouse anymore. As soon as I'm in POL, it is all about the keyboard. At first I thought the interface was terrible since I was used to FPS on PC, but now I love the ffxi interface. Everything is right there, no need to move your one hand from the mouse to keyboard to message people.

I do have a question for all of those people that use a gamepad for the PC. The keyboard has the same functionality, and is much more versatile (you can type messages without moving your hands from controller to keyboard). Why bother using a gamepad at all?

I don't bother using my mouse unless I have to target something specific in a huge group of players, like the auction house.

Otherwise it feels like it was just added to the pc version for the hell of it, no real requirement.

I do prefer the keyboard to gamepad though.
