  • Prequel to the adventures of Signpost

/ooc sorry for their being no pictures but it is not allowed due to the NDA and I don't have my kit yet . please let me know what you think, and whether you would like me to continue with the journal once I get the kit. Thank you.

It was a cool, dark night when a Male Hume child was born into the world of Vana’diel. Born to a well travelled Black Mage and a Women skilled in the arts of White Magic (though he would never know this), this child was named Signpost; in honour of a hero in the far off world of Tunaria that his father had fought along side. His parents did their best to hide their powers from the child and to allow him to grow up as a regular boy. As a young boy he was like all the other Hume and Galka childen, and had many friends. However, as he matured he began to notice that he was different from his friends. He seemed to have a power within him that he didn’t understand. Knowing that his parents did not wish him to become involved in the battles and wars beyond the city walls he secretly began speaking with mages, knights, and other travellers that lived in or were passing through the Bastok. He took an interest in magics and began to speak with an elderly mage that had long since retired from battle and now owned a small shop within the city. Every night after supper while his parents were busy he would go out and meet with the old mage for stories and a lesson or two in magic. By the time Sign had reached the age of maturity he had already decided to leave home and study to become a mage.

On the eve of his 18th birthday Signpost called his parents into their small house and told them that he wished to leave and study magic. He couldn’t explain why he felt so strongly but his parents understood. Sign told them that he would not go without their support and regretfully (they knew this day would come) they agreed to allow him to leave.

Signpost had always been a child of conflict. He enjoyed helping people but he also enjoyed destruction and hearing of the glory of slaying monsters. Because of this duel nature, he decided that maybe a red mage would be the best job for him upon completing his studies.

After two hard years of study Signpost was ready to graduate from an apprentice and begin his career as a red mage for the city of Bastok. On his 20th birthday Signpost shaved his head and had it tattooed with a symbol representing his family and his devotion to the magics. He was now initiated and was a full-fledged red mage.

On a dark, cool day; much like the day he was born; Signpost bought some basic gear that would allow him to get started on his journey to be the greatest red mage the city of Bastok had ever known. With the power of his parents inside him he stands at the entrance to the city. Ready to take his first step into the lands beyond the gate. They were never allowed outside the city as children because of the many monsters lurking around the city, but now he had to head out and prove to himself that he can do this. He builds up his courage, takes a deep breath and takes his first step outside the protective walls of the city…..

/ooc once I get my beta kit I will continue this strory of Signpost adventures in the world of Vana’diel but until then it will have to wait.

Very nice story, keep up the good work. I like how you made him a red mage since his father and mother were opposing classes. I look forward to future chapters and/or pictures.

Incorrect. There is no NDA. Bondelas/Hakori and I asked GMs in the game if there was an NDA and if it did not allow players to post pictures in the game and he said there was not. He also said whoever told us that should be shot and I agree completely. Like he said, the Japanese site constantly posts pictures so that should have been a dead giveaway. He also said the only thing you probably can't take pictures of is the hard drive and beta kit, so feel free to post your screenshots.

/ooc Finally getting around to continuing the story. I am at work and don't have access to my screenshots (nothing interesting anyway) so this one also will be all story. It won't be very long because, well, nothing interesting happens in the early levels.

As Signpost stepped into the vast, open areas of the Southern Gustaberg region beyond the gates of Bastok he was filled with a rush of adrenaline and excitement. He ran to a near by stone structure, away from the bright lights of the city and there he sat for several minutes allowing his eyes time to adjust to the darkness around him. As the darkness lightened hew began to be able to make out the silhouettes of the land and animals around him. To his right he could see a huge hornet buzzing around and he heard the flapping wings of a trio of ding bats. He was just beginning to stand up and dust himself off when a tunnel worm burst through the ground right where he had been sitting. The worm must have sensed the vibration in the ground from Sign's movements.

Quickly drawing the onion dagger the old mage had provided him, from its sheath Signpost began to do battle with the worm. Tunnel worms do not usually attack people. They prefer to feed on samll insects in the ground, or near the surface. Of course Signpost forgot this small fact due to his nervousness and excitement and he took his first swing at the worm. He connected with the hit and did a small bit of damage to the worm but not much. The fight was short and he missed several times. Battle is a lot tougher than he had imagined and his skills with a dagger were sub-par at best.

After the fight he decided to rest again to regain his composure and clear his mind a little. After a small rest he stood up and went out looking for things to test his skills on hopefully improve them slightly. He continued to fight hornets, bats, and worms until the sun began to appear on the horizon. Tired, sore, and very hungry, Signpost decided to call it a night and head back to town to get some rest. This night had turned out to be a great learning experience and as he sat down on his bed to peel the boots off of his aching feet he reflected on all he had accomplished. He had become stronger, he knew it, and by the end of the night he was definately more comfortable weilding a dagger and had missed less and less with each fight.
