i agree with the directions on your hq compass however the success (or true elemental directions) compass leaves me confused. the hq compass (as i have always used it) is based on weaknesses to whichever element you are using to synth with.
example: you are using an earth crystal. according to the hq compass you should face southeast (agreed). but the reason you should face southeast for hq/skillup is because southeast is the elemental direction for wind right? that is how the hq compass is calculated...you should face the direction of what your crystal is weak to for hq/skillup.
therefore the success compass should be:
north - dark
northwest - fire
west - water
southwest - lightning
south - earth
southeast - wind
east - ice
northeast - light

Hmm, that's intresting I always though Northwest was light and Northeast was Fire. If you are basing the directions on the 8 stars matching their element, all 8 stars make a ring matching the elemental wheel pretty much.
So to match that then it should actually be:
NE = Fire
E = Ice
SE = Wind
S = Earth
SW = Thunder
W=Water
NW = Light
N = Dark
Unless I confused myself when I've been crafting every time and testing that theory. So far I haven't notice any of this really provide any huge effects to confirm or deny them as working. I've HQ'd things that are 10 levels under my current very frequently but so far I have not matched day, direction, or even moon phase for this.
Also as I've posted on another thread the Moon Phase has a consistent pattern were 4 of the elements are always missing a stage of the Full Moon and New Moon, but also only 2 ever get 100% Full Moon and only 2 ever get 0% New Moon. To me that kind of disqualifies the moon phase theory because it isn't giving any equal balance for all elements.
The best I could agree which is an older one was that what ever element color the moon was displaying (that of the next day) may have some significance to better HQ crafts. Otherwise with the direction I still haven't been able to confirm it yet. I had crafted Hi-Ethers at lv. 58 facing SW and only had 2 fails the entire time a lv. 69 crafting item and I was crafting it at 58 without synth support so agreeing on the direction of success and skill up is hard for me to say.
I do have to agree that facing SW also got me a lot of skill points too, at lv. 58 I got .5 twice, at 59 it was .5-.3, at 60 it was .3 and 1 time .5, at 61+ it's been .1-.3 so facing did seem to improve how fast I skilled up but is also didn't really fail either. Then the part that makes it hard for me to agree with is I did another synth following that idea and every single one failed and this one was at what should of been an ideal time to do it.
Anyway that's my experience with it at 80 alchemy now. Even though synths of 50+ appart are suppose to be more consistent for HQs I do know something is effecting it when there was 1 instance doing beeswax and animal glue that I failed to synths through making 3 stacks of each of those two (That really pissed me off so it isn't likely I'd forget that).
Well there's my two cents to that take it however you want. I'll still be fiddling with direction to see if it really does effect anything, getting money and space ready to run a 200 synth test each direction to see if there's a noticable change in success rates. If the directions do work then fesibly there should be 1 direction that does extreemly good and 1 direction that does extreemly bad, well see how it works.
The chart is intresting though.

When I failed the synths on the beeswax and animal glue it wasn't one, two, or the common type of fails you'd have. It was 2 or 3 stacks of the ingredients to make the synths, it wasted my money even more when I did that and my successes at the time were only Normal Quality. That was at 80 alchemy and went through well over 5-6 stacks of fire crystals without a single HQ? The first was animal glue since I got tons of those ingredients I never payed attention to what day I did them on anymore since I had always made HQ synths getting anything from 2-4 animal glues.
Beeswax though I've always done them on Watersday facing which should be the Water element star (West) at 5% New Moon (The only New Moon phase you can get with watersday) everything that should produce HQs and I had occurrences were were I failed at making 2 stacks of beeswax that's 72 beehive chips wasted and 24 fire crystals. Thats a lot for something that's like lv. 6 skill cap to fail on.
If you are curious yes I blew about 60k gil on the beeswax synth there. That's chump change though to the 1 mil I blew on another synth (Not going to say that one though because it was just flat out idiotic that I had done that one).

The chart I created was based on things I have read in chat rooms and other charts. Also, Ulmo who has 60 in every craft and 99 in clothcraft. He also in my LS. When he helps me correct the chart, I believe him. I personally have tried a few synths using this chart. And had no problems synthing, except the synth fails that you get a lvl 1 synthing skill. But if the chart helps, great! But if you have your own way that has been working for you, great! as well.

Actually I don't yet, just seeing on what basis the directions have. If they have significant meaning to the 8 stars, which everyone of them is correct except for the Fire and Light on your chart.
The best I do know is that there is definatly something that occurs to cause your chance of success and not, what exactly is something I'm still trying to find. Just got to test more, but an any case the success and fails haven't been noticable enough for me to identify a pattern I think it is yet.
I use to believe that the day of the element or the one strong against it was great for HQs but when I HQ'd as good or better on off days then it makes me wonder. Just got to try it more and see is all it seems.
