Key Item: Metal Purification

This key item can be bought with guild points. I was just wondering what this key items does. Any help in this matter is apprieciated.

The Metal Purification tool is required to synthesize the Light Steel Ingot, which is required to make the new Twicer great axe. Presumably more recipes will be added that utilize it, in the future.
