  • Crafting Mule? or Use Main Character?

Just a thought I had that I wanted to get some opinions on. I have a few other mule type characters that I use to check the respective AH's now would some of our high lvl crafters out there would you recommend primarily raising your craft skills with your primary character? or Use a mule since they will always be centerally located and thus you can just pick up your sything efforts by just logging on the character?

only really matters if u wanna be able to make all the syn's for a certain high lvl item.

i think the elemental staves take 2 very high lvl crafts to make several parts that are needed.

i do all my crafting on main character

anyhow, if your mule is lv1, and your gunna have a kinda hard time getting around for when u gotta goto another town to raise that skill so u can raise your main skill

Cooking 60 is good to do on main character, since you can make juices during those levels without refresh.
Kitty has to run around a lot, so a mule works better for crafting.
Main characters have more fame from quests and can buy things cheaper from NPC shops, though.
      Warning level cat face.

        All-Mule

If you can take a few weeks to get a character to 15 and a chocobo license, it makes for a good all around mule. They add another 7 slots to auction at the AH, another 50+ slots in the Moghouse, and the ability to keep your character where it is. All you have to worry about is getting somewhere that allows you to send item to characters, your mule(s) do all the running for you.

Also, if you have a good cooling solution for your computer, you can even set up bazaar on your mule (while your exp character stays out in the field) while you go to work/school/wherever. They are the citybound character and easier to get them out in front of the AH.

Since "Holidays" seem to have actions repeated on a game-daily basis, assuming you can complete the action in less than half the game day (i.e. collect the egg from the moogle), you can double or even triple your productivity. This is of course assuming it uses or results in an item that is not EX.

I find Crafting on the main a much more enjoyable experience. Lvl 74 Leathercrafter atm. If I need to travel between sandoria and Jeuno for materials and synth support taking the airship is very nice. Also after completing mog house upgrades and your gobbie bag... the extra space you have on your character is nice. I crafted 80 dhalmel mantles when skilliing up and just had my mule take them all and sell them in Bastok over time. Doing so didn't impede on my mains inv. space and I could continues crafting. I have another mule for other things I don't make so many of. Also I can sell higher and buy lower to NPC's in Sand'oria which is very helpful due to my hero fame. Also at my lvl I get requests to autograph equipment and will so more in the even later levels I'm sure. So if you're mule is well known... then I guess an autograph would be cool, but I think autographs are more of a thing for a main character.

            ^^^
XD And here I was thinking... that sounds a lot like Truce's setup O_o Peek over-- wow, he has the same jobs, and the same look, same home nation and everything. I guess I should start making note of the posters' names >_<

I tend to agree with what Truce says. Having a mule crafter has its obvious advantages, but I think that for most people, their character is something they put a lot of effort into, and they want to be able to display it. Do you really want to put all that work onto some character that only a very few people will be able to relate to your main ;_;? I guess for some people, crafting is all about the gil. If that's the case, I guess it doesn't matter, but look at it this way: the obstacles and downsides to crafting on your main can all be overcome-- the only limitation you really have is only having 40 points past lvl 60. Everything else can be overcome with a little bit of effort-- a little more time and travel.

On the other hand, there are serious sacrifices to not having your craft levels on your main. You can't use your main's autograph, it's more difficult to "advertise" (people who want to buy from you may have a difficult time finding you if you're only on that character 2 hours a week :p)-- another BIG factor is crafting consumables. If you are into a job that uses a lot of consumables, it's important to remember that your craft can actually SAVE you space. For example, a Ninja who uses a lot of tools, especially Shihei, can carry a stack of Wind Crystals, 2 Bast Parchment stacks, and 1 Black Ink stack in 4 slots. Turn those materials into Shihei all at once, and that's (12 X33)/99= 4 spaces again, so no difference in space right? Well when you HQ them, you'll often get twice or three times as many on a synth, which makes 4 spaces into 8 or 10 or even more O_o There are several advantages to crafting on your main IMO :D
