Bl'smithing & Synth' Q's???

Hi everybody.
I'm looking to get into blacksmithing and had a question. Can I create equipment like swords, shields, armor ect? If I can, please let me know if there is a site that has a list of things that i can make and the materials needed to make them.
Hope someone can help.

Thanks for the site. That was exactly what i was looking for. But after checking it out, I have another q.
For example, to make bronze knuckles, we require fire crystal, Bronze Ingot x1, Bronze Sheet x1, Ash Lumber x1, and under other skill it has woodworking (1). Does that mean that I have to have lvl 1 woodworking in order to make bronze knuckles?

Well, you don't HAVE to have but you'll fail the recipe more if you don't, but while you are making the knuckles, you'll raise both smithing and woodworking (i think, correct me if i'm wrong) while making them so as soon as you hit lvl 1 woodworking, you've capped that and still have another lvl or so in smithing. Also, you could look at that in reverse and say that if woodworking was your main gil you need what i consider a "sub" guild of smithing to 2 (or it'll lvl to 2 in the process of getting wood to 1) Either way, it's the same idea. Those recipes are a good way to raise 2 guilds at once, but if one guild is ~13 lvls below the cap, i suggest just sticking w/ the recipes that only use the main guild you're trying to lvl, if that makes sense lol. Yep, you will. When making Iron Mittens, leather crafting went from 6 to 10.

What should I start trying first? What will I have the least trouble synth'n in the beginning? I'd hate to spend so much money on items only make something worthless time and time again hehehe
