  • What do you know about Clusters?

Hi, I'm asking this because I don't know if there are a lot of people don't know what a cluster (ie. Fire Cluster) is or they simply don't want to pay 100gil less for them (and 5 gil less for me).

I have been selling Wind Clusters for a while and noticed that there seems to be people willing to pay 1.8k for 12 wind crystals but not 1.7k for 1 wind cluster. They have enough money to buy 10 stacks so I don't think they are new to the game. I even shout about my selling price (1.7 cluster) in my bazaar next to another person who later buy 20 stacks of wind crystal from me in AH for 1.8k >.<

I just want to know if there are a lot of people not knowing what a cluster do so I will sell them in crystal form (same anyway).

dont know why that is. something i onced wondered but since gave it up. maybe using cluster fails,an you get no crystals. was what a friend said that could happen. yet i am not sure. never has happened to me.

maybe its just another aspect of the game we can never figure it out. like why can i sell my sneak spells more to a npc, then at a.h. or why do people buy cheap from vendors. to seel high on auction. i forone dont know. an for one dont care to understand...

Well, breaking clusters would help them selling a little faster since you'll get the newbies market too, but usually, I farm clusters for my own use, so I don't see why it shouldn't be the same for others. Beside, stack and clusters tend to sell at the same price anyway, but ignorance is the cause.
And the lack of elementals. Where in the hell is the common spawn location of wind elementals in tharongi canyon

Also in jeuno, the tax on a stack of crystals > the tax on a cluster. I personally like the cheaper clusters .

I bought a firecluster for what I thought was going to be 3 stacks of fire crystals in one(from what I read) I didn't know how to use it for it looked like one item so never bothered with it again till I figured out more.

How do you break it down into more cyrstals.

The wind elementals tend to spawn in the southern part of Tahrongi just north of the mountain pass. I always use /RNG when I go elemental hunting.

Clusters will never yield more than 12 crystals. They will always yield 12. Might have confused the fact that elementals can drop anywhere between 1-3 clusters. (So far the only elemental that I've killed to yield more than 2 was an earth elemental ^^)

Clusters are used in some aspect of higher level play. In Infrit's Cauldron, you need to trade a cluster (not a stack of 12) of Ice in order to pass by this one gate.

Some higher level crafting recipes (the first one that comes to mind are the batteries in Alchemy) require a cluster as one of the components, and will not accept a stack of 12 crystals.

Hope that helps clear the confusion.

Well, since I'ma total newb (although, not really 'cause I'm level 20 but I bet those people in Jeuno think (Whoa, what a noob!) I have no clue what clusters are. I've learned that elementals drop clusters (neva knew that before) but what do clusters do? I think they make 12 crystals? But what about this fail thing?

                  *brain explodes*

Probably only chance of a "fail" is if you zone just as you break it. Other than that I almost only buy clusters and never had any fail on me (I've broken down hundreds of clusters.)

Also possible to lose it if someone were to cast an AOE status effect on your team (bar- spells for example).

After hunting air elementals in Tahrongi today I'll have to retract my statement; they spawn all over the map. There was a period of about 15 minutes today where it was constantly windy ... I killed 2 and found 3 others that were already claimed. There was also at least one more that I never did find ...

So looks like I'll probably spend some time leveling ranger up (cheaply ... probably just to 10) so I have a slightly larger wide scan radius.

Wide scan gets larger at levels 20, 40, 60.

So leveling to 10 won't help you there.

try la theine for air elementals if you haven't already, the elementals tend to spawn near the cliffy area's you can't go down, like where the stone monuement/tumbling truffle spawn..except you can actually go down there

altho i guess tahrongi might be better since the area isn't as annoying to navigate and doesn't have a 2nd element of weather

then again i think tahrongi has earth weather sometimes XD

Tahrongi has a 2nd element, earth. Wind is more common in Tahrongi though and is my preferred place for Air Elemental hunting. I could be wrong, but I believe every zone has 2 elemental weather effects associated with it.

IMO, flee and wide scan are practical necessities(sp) when hunting anything that spawns infrequently over a large area.
