  • Farming...what is it?

Alright, as im sure is obvious to anyone entering this topic, i'm a newb, at least in this respect.

I have a lvl 14 theif. As i hear it theives are great at farming (whatever that is).

My understanding of it is the collection of gil/items by creating mobs and stealing/running from them or mass killing. However, how is mass killing any different from killing individual monsters? You still get the same items correct?

I dont really understand this concpet, yet, the word appears in every other post. Obviously it's an effective way of recieveing both money and items, I'd appreciate any information.
    - Best job for farming
    - Pros and cons of theif farming
    - Pros and cons of farming in general
    - Definition?
    - etc

    Thanks

Once you hit level 30 goto Fort Ghelsba and kill alot of Orcs they drop alot of gil for thieves. But you can also kill regular mobs that drop better stuff. Like Lizards will drop Lizard skin which sells nicely in a stack and with Treasure Hunter and such you get them alot faster. Not sure if I helped but yea thats what you do.

Ok, I'll answer your questions first :

1- mass killing is reserved for thoses classes that have Area of Effect spells/ WS. It's better than killing each and every mobs one by one because of the kill/time ratio. The basic strategy is to make a train (agro without killing a mob and running around mobs of the same type in the area) and then, get them togheter and kill them easily and fast. This technique is only usable by higher lv players as you need to survive getting hit by 20+ monsters on your tail.

2 - Best job for farming, I would say anything that can kill a desired mob type fast and without using too much ressources. Having a sub THF 15 help too for Treasure hunter 1, wich boost the Item drop rate and gil finder wich boost the gil drop.

      3-
Pros : Sure and stable ressource of cash, fast if you know what ti hunt and the market wont affect it too much

Cons : Takes longer as other farming methods, need some researches to know what to hunt for the best gil/hour ratio. May get boring as it consists of repeating the same thing over and over.
Certain farming methods DO get affected if the market drop, those atre usually the secret farming methods revealed to the public.

4- definition : Ok, those methods I've mentionned above are
kill-a-mob version of farming, but, myself, consider farming as everything that occur outside of towns, so it contain also mining/logging/harvesting/excavating/fishing.
So, farming is an activity that is appart from Xp and with the only goal of making gil. Farming takes place outside of town.

Ok, that would inform you on farming, but if you want to do more, just search the forum as farming will always be a hot topic as everyone is greedy and want more and more cash.
But one thing : don't expect anyone to tell you his/her faming method as it could kill the adn their economy.
Best exemple : A month ago, platinium ore on valefor was worth 30k a chunk, now its only worth 11k-13k because many figured out or got informed of how to obtain those.

Now go, level a bit and experience, it's the only way to farm.
