  • Catching Bastore Breams w/ Composite rod

Will / can you land these fish regularly using a Composite rod? I swore i received some "too small" messages with my Mithran rod before it broke on a cast try'n to catch these fish...

You'll get a lot of 'too small' using a composite rod, the rod won't break though.

I went ahead and tried this.. Broken lines and too small messages abound ><

Totally unrelated.. But when catching moat carp I have found the best rod is a Mithran rod... 6-8% of your catches will be "too small" messages BUT your line will not break.

With a carbon rod my line broke (with skill in the 40s) about 5% of the time and I lost 1000gil every time the rod broke.

Just something intiresting I decided to track after I started noticing my line never broke with the mithran rod.

I must say I got less 'too small' fishing carp with a composite rod than a mithran. That rod is a waste of gil imho, just use composite everywhere.

          hrm..

next full/new moon i will have to test a compisite out on carp ><

another thing to take into consideration is line breaks.. my line NEVER breaks with a mithran rod..

Just happened to stumble on this topic after spending the last two days in Jugner using Composite/Insect Paste. Fortunately, I have some nice figures from my fishing escapade.

            Day 1:
[Begin: 20 Fishing Skill, full fishing gear]
8 Stacks of Paste, 96 catches
            (8 Didn't Catch Anythings)
            0 Line Breaks
            0 Rod Breaks (of course)
? Monster Failures (didn't record stats)
? Too Smalls (didn't record stats)
            39 Successful reels (40%)
            1 Rusty Leggings
            21 Moat Carp
            10 Tri-Colored Carp
            7 Dark Bass
            +1.1 Skill

            Day 2:
[Begin: 21.1 Fishing Skill, full fishing gear]
8 Stacks of Paste, 96 catches
            (3 Didn't Catch Anythings)
            0 Line Breaks
            0 Rod Breaks (of course)
            7 Monster Failures (7%)
            15 Too Small Failures (15%)
            43 Successful reels (45%)
            2 Rusty Caps
            25 Moat Carp
            12 Tri-Colored Carp
            4 Dark Bass
            +0.9 Skill

I don't have (nor want) a Mithran so I can't give any feedback on it, but so far Composite has given me NO line breaks here out of 192 catches. And this is with a relatively low fishing skill for the area.

Too Smalls is a bit of a pain; on Day 2 they could potentially have been another 15% Successful Reels. Once again, no idea if Mithran is more or less in this field. But considering you can still skillup off Too Smalls, I don't mind in the least. I'm only fishing for skill - not for fish. I am curious, however, as to what these Too Smalls are. Gold Carp perhaps? Only thing my combination can catch that I haven't fished up.
