  • Fishing:Is it worth it?

I been thinking about starting fishing but i have some questions about it. Is it expansive? is there any form of profit at lower lvls? the last thing i want to know is does it take a long time to get any sort of fish. Thank you for any replies.

Fishing is probably the best for making money at low levels. However, I would highly suggest investing in a composite rod. It costs 8-10k but it won't break for a LONG time and will save you many headaches. Get a composite rod, some little worms (4 gil each from a shop in windhurst waters), advanced image support from a guy on the docks at the fishing guild, and start fishing in freshwater ponds and streams throughout windhurst (woods, waters, and walls). You will start out slow but you will get lots of moat carp which sell for 3-4k for 12. When you can afford it, buy the fishing gear which goes for 10-20k a set.

The downside to fishing? It takes MUCH longer to level than any other craft, and there is no way to just pay more money for more materials to make the skills come quicker. Also, knowing where to fish and what bait to use is essential past level 11 which is all fishing in windhurst will net you (for now).

        I have another question.
I started fishing this weekend. Ive fished for about 2 hours and ive gotten to lvl 2 fishing but im wondering whats wrong.
for the first hour i caught lots of fish. I got to lvl 1.5 but when the second hour started i started doing much much worse. I almost never got a bite and when i did it was usually lost . Whats wrong?
does it have something to do with weeather its waxxing or waning, crecent or Guddios?
        thanks for any feedback

People have been saying that you need to change zones across two areas for fishing to resume to normal, due to fishing bots. I don't know if it's true =>.>=

i hear rumors like this too

but, can you change to two zones then run back to the original zone you are in? or is there some kinda time limit that has to pass before you can resume normal fishing in zone 1 again?

That is S-E's wonderful anti fishing bot code. Apparently they think if you fish for more than one hour you must be botting. Anyways, I zone twice every hour or so. Not too bad in town as I just run to get fishing support but it can be a bitch when fishing outdoors.

I've taken up fishing on the boat route just to avoid said problems, but then my skill seems to be trying to get something I can't yet, and i get way fewer quu/sardine bites than i did at around level 5 now at 9 it takes forever to get bites... even with full fishing set and advanced support... using composite and sabiki rig if anyone's wondering, was using glass till it snapped three times on me...

A composite rod is for large fish (although it seems some carp can be caught with this rod, too). So small fish, like sardines and quus, cannot be caught. Using a carbon rod and sabaki rig on the boat is a wonderful way to raise you skill until about 11 (although Quus cap at lvl 17).

I don't know if you have searched and read any fishing guides, but there are a few good ones out there, and I would suggest it.

I'm currently fishing in Port San D'Orian with level 21 fishing. I make my own bait (Insect Paste - capped at lvl 29 cooking) and use a carbon rod until it breaks. I use the carbon because Gold Carp are considered small fish (sell for 675 at guild in Windurst). After that, I switch to Mithran (never broken in Port San), still being able to catch Moat and Tricolored carp (115 at Windurst Guild). I trade the Moat Carp to the NPC (for Lu Shang's Rod - 100 each).

Your skill will cap around lvl 11 catching Moat Carp, 27 for Tricolored, and 56 for Gold.

I've been told by a friend of mine who has MUCH higher fishing skill than me, that catching Nebimonites (Small, Crayfish balls) off the Mhaura-Selbina boat is good money (14k for a stack on Fenrir server). They cap at lvl 30, but you have a VERY good chance of breaking rods at a low lvl if you try for this fish. That's why I've started Alchemy to repair the all the Carbon Rods I break.

This turned into a long winded answer, but these are my fishing plans. I can post more information that I gathered from experience if you want it. ^^

This is definately NOT true. I use a composite rod with sabaki rig in kazham and a few other places and catch bastore sardines, quus, and cobalt jellyfish quite reliably. composite rod with insect paste in san d'oria. and i catch moat carp, tri colored carp, and once in a while, gold carp. in qufim with sabaki rig i caught 3 yellow globes, then got attacked and eaten by a krakken, so i didn't fish anymore there
