Harvesting: How To?

There's been a lot of talk about fishing and mining on these boards.. Can anyone give me any information regarding harvesting? As far as I have been able to gather, you need to use sickles (how fast are they exhausted?) Field Tunica, Field Hose, and Field Boots I suppose help (Field Gloves don't have Harvesting listed in their description of enhancements).

Where are the best places to harvest from? What can be obtained in what areas? Is it worth it at all? I'm a clothcrafter and I was originally looking for a cheap way to get flax, but I'm curious about the whole process and wondering if its worth it to really try.

First of all, Fishing is a CRAFT, which is way diffrent from field work, such as Mining or Harvesting. Whereas a craft will increase in skill with time and takes a LOT of money to make profitable, harvesting has no definite skill levels and can be done at any level with the same results. Field clothes are the one thing that change this, making you receive better things when you harvest. As a beginner I'd recommend you'd start in Zeruhn Mines in Bastok or the Sarutabarutas in Windurst. I easily mine in an hour 25k of ores in Zeruhn with full field clothes. The problem is selling them (I can't Bazaar all night because of strange circumstances...yeah).

Harvesting Locations

I believe that you can harvest in West Sarutabaruta, in Giddeus, Burmibu peninsuala, and in the elishmo forests. Typically, the higher level the area, the better results you'll get.

I'm also quite interested in this. I seem to remember seeing a "harvest point" somewhere in Saru a while back, but can't remember where. Is there a website with location points on for harvesting around anywhere?

Well, you're sort of right about the difference between crafts and harvesting/mining/logging, but...

Fishing is profitable right away, even with 0 skill and fishing only in town. The investment is small and the return is large and immediate. Fishing is WAY too good a moneymaker compared to any other craft skill.

On the other hand, mining, harvesting and logging have no skill to raise, so their profitability is determined mainly by where you go, whether or not you have field gear (a HUGE investment, 50k+ for the full set), and how many gobbiebag quests you have (determines how long you can stay out before you fill up on loot).

As for selling your mining proceeds - have you considered taking up smithing/goldsmithing (at least to low levels) and selling as ingots instead of ores? Uses a lot less AH slots, especially if you save up to stacks of ingots. Then you just AH the rare ores individually.

areas and items

so far i have only harvested in west sarturabaruta, and most of the locations i have found are right outside of giddeus. just mash your 0 button till you see "harvesting point" come up ^^ they're not right up on the entrance, but right in that area.. like anywhere you see a crawler over there in that draw, also going up on that little rise in the northwest where the bees hang out (can get up there by going towards the ruin). theres usually many up there.

so far i have gotten moko grass, saruta cotton, flax flowers, crawler cocoon, fresh mugwort, fresh marjoram, winjirit (sp?), windurstian tea leaves, gyhsal greens, grain seeds, vegetable seeds.. theres probably something im forgetting. the most common are moko and gyhsal, but i get enough cotton and flax to make it worthwhile. i dont use any field equipment, and the sickles seem to be good for many, many uses. usually they dont break until the 8-10th time you use them.

the spots are good for about 1-4 harvests, then they respawn somewhere else, but its usually very close by. just mash that 0 key in your general area and you'll probably see the next one ^^

i just started clothcrafting and have been harvesting while leveling my lvl 11 thf, so i havent tried out giddeus or the peninsula yet.

Thanks grae that was a nice help! I wonder if you get out of West Saruta if the results increase at all.. I might need to try my hand at it, but at the moment I'm mad-leveling my bard ^^ Mage ballad here I come!

Does anyone know what results are possible in Giddeus? or anywhere else for that matter?
