Alchemy 10-25

I recently hit alchemy level 10, but I need to get to ~25 so I can synth bast parchment without failing most of the time. >.> So, anyone have any tips?

I synthed tsurara from 0-6 (so cheap, I'd gladly do it again if I could still get skillups), then poison dust from yellow globes till 10. I still have 2 stacks of yellow globes, along with about 8 lightning crystals and a composite rod / sabiki rig. I'm not sure if they'll still give me skillups; I haven't tried any since hitting alchemy 10. But the skillups were pretty slow at 9...

I heard that synthing mercury from cobalt jellyfish is good, then poison potions. Where is a good source of cobalt jellyfish, does anyone know? Is there anywhere I can reliably fish them up? Sometimes I catch one in PortJeuno, but it's pretty rare.

First things first. Make certain you haven't forgotten to do the Test at the Bastok Alchemy guild to uncap your skill. If your skill is blue in the Craft Skill window, you need to go get Recruit status from the guild master.

Cobalt Jellyfish can be fished up in just about any saltwater except for the eastern Mindartia sea (Buburimu, Sauromugue, Qufim).

The best way to go from 10-15 is indeed mercury. Synth is 4 cobalt jellyfish and 1 lightning crystal. Best way to get Jellyfish is see if your ls fishers will get them for you or buy them from the alchemy guild in bastok or the fishermans guild in windurst. 15-20 I made flask of echo drops which are 1 water crystal 1 sprig of sage 1 flask of distilled water and 1 pot of honey. Sage and distilled water can be bought from guild and you can go hunt bees for pot of honey and beehive chips which you will need to get from 20-25. At 20 you can start making pot of silent oil, synth is water crystal 1 olive oil and 2 lumps of beeswax (which can be made by snything 3 beehive chips 1 flask of distilled water and fire crystal) if you hunted the bees for honey it wii be very easy to make the lump of beeswax you need to make silent oil which will easily get you to 25. I am one of the fishers for my LS.

What bait/rod is good to use for jellyfish? As I said, I've been able to fish up a couple in PortJeuno with composite / sabiki, but it was maybe 1 to every 2-3 stacks of Yellow Globes, and that if I was lucky. =\

Is there a lure I can use, or am I stuck with bait?

How are poison potions for 15-20? I've been saving my poison dust for that reason, but if I'm not going to synth it for EXP, I'll probably sell. =X

If I am stuck buying beeswax from the AH for silent oils (don't hurt me, I know I'm being a horrible person for suggesting it ;0; ), how much can I expect to lose, synthing for EXP from 20-25? I'm on Ragnarok, though, so I'm not sure if you can offer any advice for that.

The fishers in my ls tell me they have had good luck with sabiki rig for jellys, that about as far as my fishing knowledge goes. :sweat:

Posion potions will work fine for you until 18 when they will no longer give you skill, at the point you could switch to the echo drops which go for about 5-6k a stack on Rag which makes you about 1k profit or so.

If you decide to buy beeswax instead of making it you are looking at a pretty healthy lose Beeswax go for about 1k a piece and 11k a stack, you need 2 of these for each silent oil synth which yeilds 2 silent oil. Total invested in 2 silent oil is then almost 2.5k where you can only sell them for about 6-8k which when you add in failed synths adds up to quite a bit of money lost, it is time consuming to go hunt bees for chips but its a great way to save money, however if you are loaded by all means buy the wax and save yourself a headache.
