Crafting 2 instead of 1??

I saw some people craft right beside me and I was crafting some arrow wood and he was crafting arrow wood as well and I was only getting one piece while he is getting two piece of lumber. Is this because he is a higher level or has a different recipe?

They were HQ crafts. Instead of Arrowwood+1, it just makes 2 pieces.

So to have HQ crafting, do you have to be high level or just have better quality crystals or logs?

You just need a higher crafting level. It usually tends to work more when you are 30-40 lvls above what you are synthing, so say arrowwood is lvl 3, if you are lvl 35 woodworking skill, you will most likely make 2 instead of one. Same goes for most other crafts, like those +1 items taht you see all the time at the auction house :D good luck with crafting!
