  • Is this normal? (fishing)

I have been fishing in P.San Doria lately, I am using a Fastwater Rod and Little worms. Out of 3 stacks of bait I caught 1 crayfish and my skill rose a measly 0.1; is this normal? or is there something else I could be doing to make my skill/success rate go up.

Also, I get something on the hook, but always lose my catch.

I think so. I've gone through more than 3 stacks before a single skill up, so I feel your pain. Overall, it seems semi-random.

      Sounds like lousy luck.
Skill gains in fishing are slow, but you should have caught more than that.
Try buying some of the + fishing skill clothes.
If you fish at a guild, such as Windurst you can get fishing immaging for a slight temporary skill boost.

Time of day and the moon affect fishing a lot. Look around this forum and you should find a post on it.

I have been fishing by the guild in Windurst lately using a sabiki rig(no need for bait ) and a composite(i think) rod. Hasn't broken yet, and can catch up to 3 fish at once. At 6 skill and using 3 pieces of the fishing clothes.

thanks for the replies. At least I know that it is not just my lousy luck, I will just have to keep at it. I am in the process of farming some gil to get a Composite or was it Carbon rod, whichever is 10K. Hopefully I will have better luck with that.

On a side note, I am from Bastok, is Ghelsba Outpost a good spot to farm around San Doria?

Fastwater fishing rod isn't very good at fishing up crayfish or carp. Might want to use a bamboo rod (will break often, but it's cheap), or a carbon rod. Little worms will catch you crayfish and carp, and insect balls will catch you only carp (much more profitable).

can the insect balls be purchased at a shop in San D? or are they only from the AH? I have only seen little worms so far, in shops.
