Shihei woodworking path?

Anyone know an effective and cheap way to get the level i need to make shihei? I was thinking of maybe investing 150k (after LL boots sell) into woodworking just for shihei...and maybe arrows too.

if you're gonna woodwork for just shihei don't, you end up spending more money then just buying stacks at auction house, but if you wanteed arrows too then that'd be good too

This has been posted at other places but here is how I am leveling woodworking (currently 46, notes are my comments). I would say I probably put about 75k into woodworking so far after everything has sold. Most of the arrows make money. Well, assuming you don't blow up your components which is what usually happens 50% of the time until you get a couple skill levels over the min into them.

Arrowwood lumber [0-2]
Arrowwood log + Wind crystal
NOTE: Buy logs from guild for 15 gil each.

Stone arrows [2-4]
Stone arrowheads + Arrowwood lumber + Chocobo fletchings + Earth crystal
NOTE: Buy all parts from AH except lumber which you should have from earlier

Ash lumber [4-8]
Ash log + Wind crystal
NOTE: As with arrowwood, and pretty much ALL lumber, make your own instead of buying from AH. Save this for silver arrows.

Willow lumber [8-13]
Willow log + Wind crystal
NOTE: Save some (1-2 stacks) of this for next level. Unlike the previous items, you will lose money on this one.

Willow wand [13-14]
Willow lumber + Insect wing + Wind crystal
NOTE: Uhg, thank god this is only 1 level. Big money sink.

Maple sugar [14-21]
Maple log + Lightning crystal
NOTE: You can break even or lose very little by buying logs from guild and getting lightning crystals at 100 gil each. Each synth makes 3 sugars so you need 4 of each per stack. A stack sells for 900-1000 gil on my server.

Silver arrows [21-29]
Silver arrowheads + Ash lumber + Yagudo fletchings + Earth crystal
NOTE: I was able to do decent with these. Quiver them and you can sell 12 quivers for 25k in jueno usually, although it can be slow. That's about 1.9k a stack + 2k for the carnations to quiver.

Beetle arrows [29-39]
Beetle arrowheads + Arrowood lumber + Chocobo fetchings + Earth crystal
NOTE: As with other arrows, make your lumber and buy rest from AH. Quivering can help sell them.

Horn arrows [39-49]
Horn arrowheads + Arrowood lumber + Bird fletchings + Earth crystal
NOTE: These sell very well. They also quiver. Sold 12 quivers for about 20k @ Jueno.

Scorpion arrows [49-59]
Scorpion arrowheads + Arrowood lumber + Insect fletchings + Earth crystal

BTW, you could prolly make more money HQ synthing Arrowwood lumber than any thing else I've seen so far. Logs go for 15 gil at guild and lumber sells for 2-2.5k for 12. If you can average 2 lumber per synth thats 1.5-2k profit per AH spot for an item that sells pretty quick.

Right now on Asura, the profit for Shihei is razor thin. Buying all the components I would make 100-200 gil per stack. This may vary on other servers though.

The only way to justify making your own Shihei, really, is:

1). to be able to get HQs while making your own black ink and
2). to be able to get HQs while making your own shihei

Get 60 woodworking and alchemy, and you'd probably be set *) Otherwise you'll save very little money making them on your own, as obsidian has illustrated.

(I'm not sure what happens when you get a HQ making bast parchment. Anyone know?)

Not to be stupid but whats Shihei?

It's a ninja tool for casting Utesemi, the blink spell. Ninja tanks can go through massive amounts of this, and it is about 4-5k for 99.
