[Ambient]

I see recipes everwhere how to make all kinda items, except the +1...

HQ=high quality (+1)
the HQ items require the item u wish to make HQ in the recipe and that item could still be broken O_o in the process

[munky@thechosen]

ok thats confused me, does that mean to make a bronze dagger +1 i have to use:
Fire > Copper Ingot + Bronze Ingot + Bronze Dagger = Bronze Dagger +1?

[Mithrael]

no... i don't know what tom means, but HQ items are simplly a bit of strategy and a lot of luck.

there are many theories about how to do it, the only certain thing is that your skill in that craft needs to exceep the minimum requirements to make the item. i.e. if you are trying to HQ an item that's skill requirements are 4-7, you need at least a skill of 5 to make a HQ version. The more your skill exceeds the requirements, the more likely you are to HQ synth it.

Some of the theories are that either a full moon or a new moon increase your chances. Also, that the day that matches your crystal, the day before, or two days after increase your chances.

Personally, I find that trying to craft on the day that matches your crystal decreases your chances. Though, i'm still relativley low (38 in tanning). Perhaps when you are in your 90s in a craft, the day of is more helpful. I have had a lot of success with the day before on both new and full moons.

A more complete and accurate list of tanning recipes (in english) can be found at http://ww.windurst.org in the Wiki.

i know for certain exceeding the required level helps. the more the better. i have a friend who is 93 in alchemy. i have him make prism powders for me and he gets the HQ almost every time(in this case HQ is just a lot more powders)

Also i watched a player making roast mushroom and she was getting witch kabob more often than roast mushroom. i asked her skill and she said 88.

[lastoneup]

So um where exactally do i find the +1 recepies on that first webpage? (sorry not a good web navigator)

[Eden]

There are no +1 Recipes. You make an item and if your skill is good enough and you've got some luck then you'll make that item a +1. Like Mithrael said your chances do increase when its close to a Full Moon (says Moon phases/percent when you check the time). Chances also increase by the higher your level is at with that crafting skill and how many times you've made that item. Crafting stuff with a crystal element of the same day increases your chances of not failing but I'm not sure about increasing your chances of making a +1, and it also... too much typing I'm gonna go play FFXI  ... :spin:

Just because you've never found a recipe for +1 doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I was browsing some item listing and noticed that this one high level player was picking up bone rings for 100-300 gil (3 entries) and was also selling bone ring +1's for 2000 (8 entries). Give me one good reason why someone would end up doing this other than there might be a recipe for +1 upgrades please.

Just because the most common way people will obtain upgraded version of the end product is through chance synthesis of the regular versions of the product doesn't mean that it's the only way.

[tomc1988t]

mithreal and whoever else dosnt belive me......1 question ...you cannot synth conquest items royal squires horn royal archers cesti royal footmens tunic....yet there is HQ versions of all these items at the auction house........how is this possible!?!??!

i made a topic about a royal squires horn HQ...and spuncan put a recipe there..that works and it requires a squires horn in the recipe......its not all about chance...

[neighbortaru]

ok there's 2 different things going on here. one is the +1 items and the other is the "upgrade" items. Yes there are recipes for the upgrade items. Take base item... do something, get the upgrade item.

The +1 items are the same recepies as the regular versions. As others have said before, it is luck/timing/skill to get these +1's from the regular recepies.

@kaply: why assume that? He might be using the bone rings as ingredients in another receipe.

[kaply]

Well, the fact that he's buying the lower kind and selling more of the higher kind suggests to me that he is using some kind of upgrade recipe.

That or else he's been trying really hard to create regular bone rings but can't seem to create them anymore since all he gets are +1 versions.

Essentially upgrade and +1 items are the same thing.

[neighbortaru]

hmm. i don't agree with the logic. 3 regular bone rings->do something->gives 8 +1 bone rings? doesn't make sense to me.

your other idea, however, does. If he is high lvl, it is certainly possible that the only kinds of bone rings he makes now are the +1 versions. It's like what Haruko the Alie has said about the high lvl alchemy friend.

[imac2much]

Essentially you don't know what the hell you're talking about, so stop spreading all this incredibly WRONG information. Ugh, just because you speculated on something or you *THINK* something, doesn't make it right.

As neighbortaru said, upgrading and +1 are totally different. Upgrading would be something like... making bastokan/federation equipment from CP equipment. I think sometimes you can make better weapons using a weaker weapon as well (brass spear from bronze spear or something?).

+1 is totally different. To make +1 you just need higher skill than the leve of the recipe (the higher the more chance). Light day and full moon seem to be helpful as well. For example, I can make steam crayfish on Lightday (my cooking skill is 43), with same recipe as boiled crayfish (fire + crayfish + rock salt + dist water). My friend can make more than 33 arrows at a time (66, 99), and my alchemist friend can make sneak potion with recipe for silent oil, or make more beeswax for same recipe as 1 beeswax (his alchemy is lvl 62). +1 depends more on chance... higher level the better, so start raising those crafting skills!

Bottom line : upgrade and +1 are NOT the same thing.

[Mithrael]

Yep you'll notice that the royal squire's horn etc. are not called Royal Squire's Horn +1.

Now, you'll have to forgive me, i'm not normally a flamer, but... Tom, what level are your crafting skills? Which HQ items have you crafted, and which recipe did you use? More importantly, If you do not know the answer to a question, don't answer it, or at least include in your post that what you are saying is speculation -.- Finally, once someone has told you that you are wrong, you had better have a pretty solid case to return and tell them that they are wrong when they provide specific information to the contrary of your first post. I've called you out once before, and I will continue to call you out every time you post your mis-inormation. We're not talking about 'opinions' here. These are cases where the facts are wrong.

see this post, if you don't remember.

If you care to make me eat my words, please privde a recipe that guarantess a HQ result by using the original item in the recipe. For your reference, you may use ffrecipe.com, which as far as i know has every recipe discovered to date. you'll need a translator if you're not proficient in kanji, babelfish.altavista.com does well enough to get by. If it were as simple as you described to make HQ items, they would be worth nil at ah... Who would buy a Leather Vest +1 if anyone could make it by using the same recipe + another leather vest?</flame>

Check the recipes on any website with recipes. You will not find a single recipe for a High Quality item (meaning Fine jerkin, Steamed Crab, Rogue Rig, Solid Mail, Peridot, etc.) that includes the low quality item in the recipe.

As to the bone rings, it is probably an upgrade as well. Take a look at tanning recipes... they almost all require some previous item to create them, that doesn't mean the Cuir Bouilli is a HQ Leather Vest... However, when you have sufficient skill in your craft, decomposition synthesis is often cheaper than buying raw materials. For example... Lightning Crystal + leather headband = 1, 2, or 3 Squares of Sheep's Leather. Since leather headband goes for 200 gil at times at ah, it's a lot cheaper to break down the headband than to buy a square of sheep's leather for 500 gil from the AH.

As mentioned before upgrade synthesis happens a lot. Sniper Rings, Tropical Punches (Actually, nearly all of the cesti are upgrades of previous cesti with sufficient tanning skills), leather shield, Corset, etc. are all examples. This is not to be confused with HQ synthesis, which creates an item even better than the upgrade.

edit: go ahead and warn me or kick me from the boards for this one... it's worth it to get this guy to stop lying to people who ask legitimate questions.

[Mithrael]

It took me so long to write my reply, a lot of people posted in between.

Yeah, he's likely just high enough that he only makes +1. At a tanning skill of only 38, i can't make a normal Square of Sheep's Leather 0.0 It either HQ synths or blows up. I know others in other crafts who have the same problem. Normally it's not a problem, but i have to buy my headbands now, or make them on really bad days like darksday, or i end up with a leather headband+1, which i don't really want to use to make cuir headbands...
